Powder coated cross bar
So I finally powder coated the engine brace cross bar a beautiful candy red but when I tightened the nuts the coated started to chip and flake. I had the guy redo it, but how can I torque this down tight enough w/o it happening again or has this happened to anyone else?

Mine is painted white, but the recessed area where the bolts are located is plasti-dipped black. It has been resprayed a few times there due to the problem you mention. I have flat washers there and even make sure to only torque the bolts/nuts to 35 ft-lbs or whatever the FSM says they should be. I still find the plasti-dip doesn't last, but it's an easy fix

Sounds stupid but are y'all using flat plastic washers or metal? Powder coat guy said use leather on bottom and top and should help?!? Couldn't get it tight enough w/o eating the leather and risk chipping/ cracking the coat again. :/
