VIS/AMS Carbon Fiber Hood..
Need some info all,
I'm wanting to order a VIS/AMS Carbon hood for the Z, I've gotten mixed reviews from what I have read.. Can anyone who owns this hood please shed some light on the hood you have. Such as looks, fitment and so on. Thanks. Found a decent price on one here.. 2009 - 2012 Nissan 370Z AMS Style Carbon Fiber Hood - VIS Racing Thanks.. |
Is there a reason why this CF hood only fits 09-12 models?

They probably listed the product in 2012 and have not updated it since.
Here it is listed as 09-14. VIS Carbon Fiber Hood AMS FOR 09 14 370Z Fairlady Z Z34 | eBay |

I was looking up the link (trying to go the extra mile :icon23: ) while you were posting your answer.

I have not owned one no, but I hear it yellows and the clear fades within or at about a year, kind of like Seibon Carbon Fiber. Re-clearing Carbon Fiber isn't hard to fork up since its a yearly expense... its more that it's a bitch to have to keep doing over and over again

Heres a link to mine. The fit is a bit off, but something to consider is that I installed aftermarket fenders at the same time and those were a pain and I'm sure the cause of most of the fitment issues, not so much the hood but I don't know anything about body and the hood is probably a problem too. Need to get to a body shop when I have time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk |

Also did you try to fit the hood with the stock fenders? Are you overall happy with the hood? |
Yes the hood is raised over the fender, but again, the fenders required a bunch of custom fitment whereas the hood is bolt on. So I'm confident the fitment issues are stemming from the fenders. I unfortunately did not test the fitment with the stock fenders. Overall I am happy with the hood, even with the fitment issues my car had already garnered massive attention, so keep that in mind as well. People are drawn to the hood.

I received my hood from VIS..
As the delivery guy was pulling the hood off the truck I see the huge gash in the box.. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...808f50ef2c.jpg After opening and unpacking the hood, I inspected it and it was flawless thanks to the good packing. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b9cd9a5c64.jpg I then started prepping the car by removing my stock hood With a little help from my little brother I installed the hood http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...84e6934395.jpg The fitment was spot on! I couldn't ask for a better fit.. VIS really did an outstanding job!! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...95aff15bac.jpg And here you have it she's all done. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3ee9b4f507.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a9d526f5a9.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b5ff857c8a.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8faa84db8e.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've been considering getting a CF hood but for some reason, I always thought it wouldn't work with mag black

That's good to hear. Do you have photos of the vents and rain channels? I'm also afraid of getting the vented hood as mine is a daily. Don't want heaps of water on the engine bay. |
Never had an issue with rain in engine bay.

I think it would be similar to this.

Knowing this puts a vented hood back on my radar... I've always assumed my engine compartment would get filthy. |
Those pics are from Jerrydeluxe. He'd be the best person to ask.

Seibon has a different system. They are removable.
