VIS/AMS Carbon Fiber Hood..

Need some info all,

I'm wanting to order a VIS/AMS Carbon hood for the Z, I've gotten mixed reviews from what I have read.. Can anyone who owns this hood please shed some light on the hood you have. Such as looks, fitment and so on. Thanks.

Found a decent price on one here..

Is there a reason why this CF hood only fits 09-12 models?

I don't think they have updated the add since 2012?

They probably listed the product in 2012 and have not updated it since.

Here it is listed as 09-14.

Boobs.

I have not owned one no, but I hear it yellows and the clear fades within or at about a year, kind of like Seibon Carbon Fiber. Re-clearing Carbon Fiber isn't hard to fork up since its a yearly expense... its more that it's a bitch to have to keep doing over and over again

Ya if your going to have carbon, you have to maintain it. My car is not a DD and sleeps in her garage. But a very good friend ownes a body shop here In town. And when I get the hood I was going to mount it to make sure of the fit. Then it would be off to him to reclear it he only charges me cost of materials.

Heres a link to mine. The fit is a bit off, but something to consider is that I installed aftermarket fenders at the same time and those were a pain and I'm sure the cause of most of the fitment issues, not so much the hood but I don't know anything about body and the hood is probably a problem too. Need to get to a body shop when I have time.

Hmm it looks like in the pic the hood is raised up above the fender??

Also did you try to fit the hood with the stock fenders?

Are you overall happy with the hood?

maizenblue 01-19-2016 02:12 PM

Yes the hood is raised over the fender, but again, the fenders required a bunch of custom fitment whereas the hood is bolt on. So I'm confident the fitment issues are stemming from the fenders. I unfortunately did not test the fitment with the stock fenders. Overall I am happy with the hood, even with the fitment issues my car had already garnered massive attention, so keep that in mind as well. People are drawn to the hood.
