First of its kind?

Hey guys so my Z is acting up. Everytime I gas it all the way, it would VERY SLOWLY increase RPMs. I mean like a 0-60 in 1 minute. I don't know if this is a limp mode or whatever. Catch is, is that it only happens whenever I turn on my headlights. When its in the off position, the car runs perfectly but whenever I manually turn on the headlights on any position, it would do this right away. This happened after I replaced a fuse for my taillights. But idk how it would correlate to this :yum: Any help is appreciated.

you answered your own question. double check to see if you used the right fuse and or installed correctly.

Ghostvette 12-17-2015 01:06 PM

A a general rule, the wrong size fuse won't cause your problem, it might be coincidental that the problem popped up after replacing the fuse.

Get a multimeter and check the alternator voltage when the car is idling with no loads (everything off) and loaded (headlights on high beam and blower fan on high). If you have a drop in voltage or if you are reading less than 13 volts at the battery, you have an alternator problem. Good luck.

:iagree: A fuse is just protection of the wire so when there is a short, it blows the fuse instead of burning the wire. Too big of a fuse will not protect the wire (wire burns, fuse just fine) & too small of a fuse will pop an open circuit too soon.

i think wat mishuko is saying is make sure u put the new fuse in the right fuse cell?

.. or not..

TonyZ34 12-17-2015 04:05 PM

I'm not quite sure if I understand what you're saying sorry :(

But the fuse I switched out was the same one. ( 10A I believe )

I'll try this when I get home! I appreciate it! And did you mean the gauge in my car or actually use the two stick thingys?

i *think* he was concerned if you placed the new fuse in the right fuse slot or not.

i remember seeing empty slots in the fuse box.. perhaps dat was mishuko's concern? (no idea..)

Nah. Because after I put the fuse back, my taillight my worked again haha

kenchan 12-17-2015 04:36 PM

sounds good. :D

TonyZ34 12-17-2015 04:50 PM

Haha thanks man but this is gonna suck. Because I'm going to Houston for HIN and coming back at night 😅 So it'll be a hard fight limping back to Dallas

DOOMMONKEY777 12-17-2015 05:42 PM

Ur grounded somewhere, could be at the switch.

As in one of my grounding wire is loose or disconnected?

TonyZ34 12-18-2015 10:05 PM

Bump! Also this happen right after I changed the fuse. I used the same one too. The only thing I didn't do was disconnect the battery but will that really affect it?

Not unless the fuse popped again in which case you have a short.

It didn't I checked the fuse today and try disconnecting my battery too. But when the other member said look at a voltameter, he's talking about the device not the gauge on the car correct? :wtf2::wtf2::wtf2::wtf2::wtf2::wtf2:

Felix 808 12-19-2015 11:03 AM

Yes you need to use a multi-meter such as this & start looking for voltage drophttp://c.shld.net/rpx/i/s/i/spin/ima...6&op_sharpen=1

Oh makes sense thank you!

Felix 808 12-19-2015 11:21 PM

NP. As Ghost said take a reading at idle & get your voltage off the battery with no accessories on Should be >13 volts. Then turn everything on, all lights a/c on full & radio to provide as much currant draw as possible. If the idle increases & the voltage on the battery drops, it means that you alternator is not charging enough. The revs are probably increasing trying to generate more charging power from the alternator because it is not keeping up.

TonyZ34 12-23-2015 08:44 PM

Update : So I did the voltage check and it seems to stay the same. It's something with the tailights fuse for sure. If I remove it, it works fine and when the fuse is back on and I turn on the lights, it goes into limp mode again. Any other suggestion? I already restated the battery if that helps.

Felix 808 12-23-2015 09:54 PM

Well the fuse itself is not going to cause a problem. You have something corrupted on that ckt.

Answer these questions & begin the ghost hunt:

Are your lights factory, or FUBAR Moded?

Is there corrosion on the ckt wiring (possible water damage, unscrupulous dealerships love to take flood damaged cars from hurricanes & what not & push them off to other parts of the country for some unsuspecting sucker to pay full price for)?

Did some homebrew electrical wizard tie some garbage mod into this ckt?

In short (maybe literally) you've got something screwing up that ckt if everything is running fine with the fuse pulled.

Good hunting.

I'll take a look into this. Thanks for all the help!
