Need Help Guys, VVT code after AutoJen vamshaft install

HI guys,
After install jun camshaft to 370Z I get check engine VVT code. Any idea why? Should I change it. Thanks Guys.

1slow370 08-27-2014 12:35 AM

what code number was it? when you installed the cams did you do the vvel position sensor reset in the manual?

aalqaedi 08-27-2014 12:57 AM

sorry the code is P1090

aalqaedi 08-27-2014 12:58 AM

Well that is what they need to do it is described in the FSM, While they are at it have them check to make sure they plugged everything in but it is almost certainly a case of they didn't perform the reset procedure.

Elmo370z 08-27-2014 03:28 PM

You plan on putting it on a dyno anytime soon? how many hours did it take to install?

aalqaedi 08-28-2014 04:34 AM

Hi Elmo370Z,
Yes I will put it on dayno after a fix the Code P1090. And I will post the sheet to you guys. It took them couple of day because the shop is full. And I wanted a specific mechanics to work on my car.

aalqaedi 09-07-2014 12:25 AM

Hi guys,
I have the cam installed and the code P1080 fixed. Now I have another problem. The car does not have power the RPM will not go up. Lose of power. Any Idea what to look at.

aalqaedi 09-07-2014 04:43 AM

After changing the cam I believe the can need to be adjusted at specific degree , what is this degree and do we need sprocket kit for that ?

aalqaedi 09-07-2014 05:43 AM

Any input guys

edub370 09-12-2014 02:09 PM

i think you may be getting very few responses because this is essentially uncharted water for 99.99% of the people on this forum. very little is known about cams in this car. has your mechanic every performed a 370 cam swap before?

1slow370 09-12-2014 03:18 PM

I already explained what he has to do, you need to download the factory service manual, go to section ec, scroll down to cam removal replacement and follow the procedure to reset the vvel sensor on the backs of the heads, it is the big one held in by 2 bolts this needs to be done or the car will not know where the vvel shafts are positioned. you need a volt meter and a 10mm wrench.

OP, you asked for advice, this guy told you what to do (twice!). why dont you try this first? is your mechanic skilled enough to do the above?

1slow370 09-13-2014 07:50 PM

I thought of another reason he may be having issues, if your mechanic didnt reset the valve lash after the cam install you may have valves that arent closing, get your motor compression tested if it fails, find a new mechanic.

I'm interested in what's gonna happen,sub'd...Wish you luck OP

Hi guys,
Know, I'm having problem with bank1 and bank2, The reading are not the same.
Any idea ?
:'(

aalqaedi 09-14-2014 12:56 AM

Yes Guys,
Just confirmed with the mechanic. The motor compression are not correct.

1slow370 09-26-2014 01:30 PM

Your welcome, but he needs to redo the entire install now, maybe have him follow the manual this time.

Edit: the valves are damaged from the actuator being improperly set the first time (which is unlikely) make sure to have him get it repaired for you.

aalqaedi 09-28-2014 02:51 AM

Guys,
know :) when they start the car I will have check engine and the car go to imp mode after 1 min.
any opinion.
how we would learn :) someone has to get problem and the rest will learn :)

1slow370 09-28-2014 03:09 AM

get me the code number, if you have a check engine you have a code number and i can at least tell you what they probably screwed up this time.

roplusbee 09-28-2014 04:54 AM

Ouch. Man I am glad I didn't jump on those cams when I had the chance. That would have been a nightmare.

Good luck OP. I think you are going to need it!

aalqaedi 09-29-2014 04:37 AM

Hi guys,
now I'm getting P1090 again with check engine and limp mode?
The guy in shop said the fualt show now is about the wiring harness on VVEL bank1. any input on that. and P1090 is popping on with check engine.

G37sHKS 09-29-2014 07:05 AM

Whats the name of the shop may I ask?

aalqaedi 09-29-2014 07:21 AM

Now it is in Saluki motorsport.
Now we end up with vvel ecu to be changed.

1slow370 09-29-2014 01:06 PM

for your sake I hope that's the end of it, but I don't think it will be.

aalqaedi 09-29-2014 10:32 PM

:) what to do.
I dont mind it. it is the time to learn the hard way :')

Elmo370z 09-29-2014 11:47 PM

well at least it seems that your keeping your spirits high, good luck with the build. Hopefully you will get everything figured out, and once that happens I can't wait to see what the car makes. Soon enough people will be asking how and what you had to go through to complete the build. Have your tried contact Jun itself?

aalqaedi 09-30-2014 01:10 AM

Hi Elmo370Z
Yes I did contact AutoJun and they sent me some info which is not helpful. And they stated that the cam should not makes problems :).

1slow370 09-30-2014 01:28 AM

yeah jun basically tells you to follow the fsm which is all you have to do for the record.

I'm pretty sure the op and his garage does not have a fsm for the 370z, welcome to the pos garages of uae.

aalqaedi 09-30-2014 05:41 AM

Do you recommend any in UAE or Dubai ?

Elmo370z 10-04-2014 12:16 AM

You should try to contact CTD in Germany, apparently they installed jun cams on a 370z and got it running and claim 395 hp, now I don't know if that to the crank or wheels.

aalqaedi 10-16-2014 01:55 AM

Hi guys,
latest update. I changed the VVEL ECU and the problem remain the same? But the mechanic says :) that there are no power going to bank1 in the other hand bank2 is 2.6 as example. which mean that bank1 does not get electricity or what you can will call in term of mechanics :)
any idea ????

aalqaedi 10-16-2014 04:34 AM

guys just to make it clear. The bank1 gives no voltage :)

6MT-Z34 10-16-2014 06:07 AM

Big props for installing the camshafts!! Hope you can get it fix and working properly....GL

Wonka2581 10-16-2014 06:19 AM

Sub'd to see what happens... Hope you get it running....

JTRAN INC. 10-16-2014 09:35 AM

check to see if the cam caps are backwards. also take the valve covers off and make sure you can physically move the vvel camshaft on that side. i had a guy that was assembling his own motor that had the same issue. turned out he had the cam caps backwards and seized the fulcrum on the vvel control shaft and it wouldnt allow it to move. hence getting stuck in that position.

juld0zer 10-16-2014 10:47 AM

would it be wise to check the loom for bank 1 VVEL motor? check for shorts, breakage, high resistance etc

The actuator has no power supplied to it, or the position sensor is not supplying a reading? I really feel for you at this point because if you weren't half way around the world I would just fix it for you.

1) Download the FSM (link in my sig)
2) Download Adobe Reader (or your favorite PDF reader) installer
3) Burn files to a CD or DVD
4) Give disc to mechanic
