well I threw in the towel for today, 74 degrees outside and I was stuck in the shop with a broken car, btw, my 2 techs one has a 530 whp 11 second neon build from the groud up from a wrenched neon, 5 years in the making so far, and the other has a 500 + whp vette, so I value both of their opinions, great guys they are! I gonna borrow a noise/vibration analyzer from our GM store, im not gonna hold my breath with it but it supposed to be able to tell you the type of vibration by its frequency and oscillation...btw the scanner was universal but it reads live data, I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Talk about mind boggling.

This problem IMO is one of 2 things:

1. Seeing as Selena Gomez is on top of the page and it's the 1st of April, you're pulling our leg and your car is actually fine. I hope this is the case.

or 2. Clutch/Flywheel defect. You lost a balancing weight, a piece of the clutch disc broke off or one of the pressure plate fingers is damaged (unlikely). All of these wouldn't show visual signs threw the peep hole in the trans, probably not much more noise and possibly wouldn't affect the Crank Sensor as it would only offset the weight on one side affecting the centrifugal force and not the rotational speed of the engine. Add the extra stiff mounts and you get a pleasant shutter in the car that is worst at certain RPMs (frequencies).

I would pull the transmission, specially if you have access to a lift and a transmission jack.

Trans pull is the current avenue, its on a lift at work, today was my day off, I have a southbend clutch/flywheel setup so I am not sure how the flywheel is weighted, I work through the rest of the week but I will try to work on it an hour or 2 in the afternoon, after the turbo parts are out of the way I can drop the trans pretty fast, I really hope thats it so I can get something in and make my tune date.

Maybe give Joe at Zspeed a call and quiz him on the flywheels and if he thinks it even possible for something like that to happen. It might be possible I guess if there is some sort of balancing weights on the flywheel. I cant remember mine when I installed it, I didnt play that close of attention to it.

Well I wasted all day yesterday, but found it, the pressure plate broke.

As weird as it sounds to say, I'm really happy for you. That's a much cheaper and easier fix than something internal to the motor. It had to have been a manufacturing defect, right? 1k miles of boost on the canned tune shouldn't kill a clutch.

Nice glad you figured what's going on

fuct 04-02-2014 01:29 PM

didnt we just have a fellow member with a broken clutch issue? what brand was that?

Joepro 04-02-2014 01:48 PM

Joe took care of me I I knew he would, I did upgrade the disk, but he called Southbend for me and is getting it replaced!

Good deal, man. Can you still make your tune assuming the parts get to you soon?

Joepro 04-02-2014 01:52 PM

Ya should have the parts by the weekend hopefully back together sat should give me enough time to break it in.

Mitco39 04-02-2014 01:58 PM

Glad to hear man. Thats awesome news!

Juan@Fontana 04-02-2014 02:06 PM

Glad to hear you found the problem before clutch fragments started flying through the bellhousing and cutting limbs. good luck with the tune!
