Any word on the thermo plate you guys said you were going to offer with the race cooler? I need to pull the trigger soon.

There currently is NO properly sized thermostatic oil cooler on the market. Your only option is to separately purchase a thermostatic sandwich plate and substitute it for the supplied unit.

I am in the process of doing this now. Call BatInc. if you have any questions or want to purchase one.

The GMP unit uses a Thermo plate. If you want to retrofit, buy the Mocal and the AN8 to 1/2 adapers to fit the Stillen fittings.

My DIY source has the AN8 to 1/2" adapters...

AN to Pipe Adapters - Aeroquip Straight Male Connector, Aluminum

$3.61 eash..

Remember, the Stillen fittings are 90 degrees. You will also need a 90 degree Male AN8 to Female AN8 fitting. Otherwise the hoses may not fit.

Use only the mocal fittings and washers!

I forgot to add that you MUST use the Mocal fittings with the special bonded Mocal washer or the sandwich plate may leak.

I'm sure BAT has AN8 adapters as does racerpartswholesale:

I should have specified these with the washer...Though I have put together leak free systems without the special Mocal parts..

..I used AN10's with the washers on my Cooler install.

You can do it without the washers, but they do give you an extra degree of security and are no brainers to install. Depends on your fitting needs..

Stillen said earlier in this thread they are working on including a thermo plate with their race oil cooler kit. I was asking for an update on that.

Just received the Stillen race cooler, and their upgraded power steering cooler. The race cooler is not a 26 row it's 25 row.
The power steering cooler is not what you see on there website (the Setrab) It's an EARL'S. It's shorter and the quality of the cooler is bad. But the design looks little more efficient.

I called Stillin and a representative told me that he'll call me back to confirm. after about 20 mint he calls back and said that the Engine oil cooler the 26 is a typo.
and about the power steering cooler. they didn't updated the picture on the website.

I'm kind off confused. I don't know if i should be upset, or angry. But I'm sure I'm not as excited as i was when i received the package.

I think I mite return it. I'll decide in the morning.

Kyle, any chance the race cooler fits the G37?? I just bought the street cooler and had it installed by you guys a few months ago.

Just think it over and look around tonight if there is anything better out.

Just placed my order for the Stillen race oil cooler. Living in Arizona I am going to try and get away without using a thermostatic sandwich plate. I can always get one later if I need one.

Today I went to the shop to pick up my car, Started the car. waited till it wormed up, Rivved it a little and heard this whining sound! it's a wearied sound like if you have a damaged power steering bearing, or a supercharge. The sound is low. You only can hear it if your in the car door closed, or if you open the hood.

Asked a mechanic (not the one who worked on the car) and he says he doesn't hear it! asked the seals person (he was out side of the car) says he doesn't hear it! so i left the car in the shop so no internal damage happens if there was an issue. and that the mechanic who worked on it can investigate whats going on.

I really can't wait till Monday to know. and i have a strong feeling that the sound is from the sandwich plat (a member on this forum had a problem with his. that he had to replace it. but he had a diffrant sound a clicking sound) So i called Z1 motorsport to send me a Nissan oil plat overnight, and i explained my situation. The tech told me that their car have the same sound! but they also installed an under drive pulley at the same time. Told me to call him Tuesday to confirm if its the under drive pulley or from the oil plate.

Still wasn't satisfied.

Called Stillen, explained my car situation after the install, and he told me i have to call Monday, coz no tech works Saturday.

I can live with the sound if i get confirmed that the sound is normal and no damage or harm will happen to the engine.

I don't have an oil pressure gauge to monitor and see whats going on. but that will be on top of the To Do list.

Valentino,

You are not alone. I just installed a stillen race cooler with a mocal sandwich plate and I have the same noise. My girlfriend says I'm imagining it. I'm very glad I'm not going insane. I can just barley hear it over the other engine noises but it is definitely a new noise.

I used all an-10 plumbing and made my own brackets with an alternate cooler placement. I also don't like running the lines low where they my get smashed or yanked on by the sway-bar. I'm curious to see what stillen says. I haven't bothered to call them as I will most likely be told that it is my alternate plumbing causing the noise. I'm looking forward to what they have to say. Here are some picks of my install.

^ I'll definitely confirm when i get an answer. I just hope it's not an issue ,and it's a normal sound.

There is a couple of members on this forum that have installed oil coolers. There input and feed back are welcome.

Forget to add to my previous post to thank John at Z1 motorsport for not just want to make money out of this, but asked me why i wanted just the oil plat, and told me to wait, to confirm.Knowing that I never had business with them before. That speaks volume in my book. coz shops like Z1 are getting rear these days. Most just want to make money. Don't want to stand behind there products, Or there work on the car after there done with it.

ResIpsa 10-03-2009 06:24 PM

I get the whining sound as well. However, it has been one week and everything is fine. It has been 500 miles and my oil still looks brand new.

To tell the truth, I am relieved as I thought my differential was going bad.
