Sounds a lot like what an older automatic would do if low on fluid - slip when RPM are low and then "catch" when RPM increase enough for the pump

Sounds a lot like what an older automatic would do if low on fluid - slip when RPM are low and then "catch" when RPM increase enough for the pump to start working again. Newer autos are similar enough to the older ones that I'd get the level checked. At 34K on the odometer, it might be a good idea to go ahead and have the trans fluid changed.
