Finally got mine!!

12nismo 05-30-2014 08:05 AM

No timing marks on that one either. I'm guessing none from this batch have them. How important is it to have?

JARblue 05-30-2014 08:16 AM

This is a really old post from NST, but claims they put the timing marks on all their pulleys. I guess you could always send them an email they won't respond to :ugh2:

YES! All NST pulleys have the proper timing marks on them.

You will see them when your package arrives, and you can see them in some of our pics if you look closely!!!

NST is such a clusterfuck I'm so glad i got a refund.

brucelidat 05-30-2014 01:55 PM

Mine don't have timing marks either. Will that be a big problem?

Cbtech 05-30-2014 02:30 PM

Timing marks would NOT be an issue as the ECU sets the timing (VVEL) and it can very depending on driving conditions. I could see there being an issue if this was a 1990 Oldsmobile and not having the timing marks.

Point = Timing marks are not necessary

brucelidat 05-30-2014 03:17 PM

cool, good to know

happytheman 05-30-2014 07:48 PM

Got mine. Interestingly enough, there's no mention of a second package coming with my belt.

http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8y98djw0.jpg

daisuke149 05-30-2014 10:35 PM

these pulleys just run accesories / pumps.. nothing to do with the cams / timing?

Huck 05-30-2014 11:43 PM

The larger one is on the crank shaft, but the older ones actually had to be set up for the correct timing.

Unless sourced and shipped direct from the mfr. it should have been packed and shipped at the same time. That's how they sent them in the last group buy. Very nice color choice btw.

MarlinZ 05-31-2014 03:56 AM

Got mine!! I knew NST would come through for us!! I'm stoked on these, almost forgot about them a couple times! Thank you for doing right by your word mike.

PW370z 05-31-2014 09:34 AM

Still haven't heard anything yet. I emailed them twice over the last few days, and no response. It looks like there was a total of 31 people on the group buy. NST claims to be "The leader in sport compact, lightweight aluminum, crankshaft, alternator, and waterpump pulley development". How could the leader not be able to produce 31 pulley kits in over 4 months???

12nismo 06-02-2014 04:02 PM

Since receiving my pulley set and noticing that there aren't any timing marks on the crank pulley, I sent NST an email asking about the missing timing marks and got this:

Hi Bryan,

The NST crank pulley does not have timing marks at this time.

If the crank pulley is installed correctly (simply remove OEM pulley and
install NST pulley without changing position) timing marks will not be
necessary. Re-timing the engine after a pulley install is not
necessary.

Thank you.

Just figured I would share with everyone who got a set from the new batch :)

Huck 06-02-2014 04:07 PM

Yeah I didn't point that out in my last post. There's only one way to install the crank shaft pulley so timing marks are a moot point. The pulley has a groove so that you can't install it wrong.

Funny though how they got right back to you on that.

i just asked about my belt as well and got this respose for anyone who is also waiting:

Hi Bryan

Many thanks.

every time i have tried to work with Stillen they do some shady pricing. they give you a "discount" then they make it up in their shipping. they try to be all "well the shipping is the same cost if you get a bumper and other gear so its not expensive." im sorry it doesnt cost $20 to ship a pulley that is less than 1 pound. :icon14:

maybe but i felt pretty good about this an from what I paid I really "think" I got a decent deal.. but I'm happy with it and they have always had good customer service with me at least

and they charged $8 for shipping

anythings better then NST's customer service I'd rather pay more for stillen's then wait 4 months with no contact for pretty much the same damn thing. both lightweight just different color

customer service says a lot about a company
that's why I'll never buy another Flossy shift knob from chad, never buy another robinson armament rifle, and now NST is added to that list.

They aren't the only ones. As I have been piecing together various parts to complete my mods; I have been shocked by the amount of shipping these places want to tack on for the smallest items. For instance, I wanted to replace both of the end-link nuts on the front suspension. I decided to go OEM and order them from a Nissan shop. Just about everywhere wanted to charge me $1.20ish for the nuts (fair), and between $10 and $20 for shipping (insane)! I have run into several other cases. What I think will be a reasonable, simple purchase, ends up being a scavenger hunt for the vendor who won't charge double or triple the item price to ship.

Apologies for getting off topic.

My wife used to work for a company that shipped a lot of stuff, and they had accounts with all the major shipping companies. They shipped enough stuff that they got 70%-80% discount on all shipping. I know that a company as large as Stillen gets at least that good of a discount, so shipping a small box with a 1lb pulley cost them maybe 20¢ lol.

On a side note, that's how a lot of those infornercials selling free samples of stuff make their money. You get a 60 day supply of pills just pay 12$ S&H, when it costs them less than a dollar for the product and another dollar for the shipping. $10 profit for nothing, then they charge your card repeatedly unless you cancel.

Huck 06-03-2014 05:05 PM

Of course the pulleys didn't make it here in time for Zdayz, and now that I have mg pulleys I can't install them because the Z is in the shop after some chick rear ended the crap out of me.

I just received an email today that states "The CR-Lite Pulley Kits have gone through production and are scheduled for shipping by June 10." Maybe the CR-Lite pulleys are one of the 'sections' to be shipped next? There is hope...
