Clutch Slave cylinder broke @ 22K

Thing just went tits up! Not really any warning. Was driving then it started loosing clutch pedal pressure. I have had this happen in other cars in the past so just pumped.... got some pressure back... kept my foot on the pedal to keep the pressure there... opened the reservoir and it was nasty. Added some fluid since I was on the road on the way back (2 hour drive). Took it to the dealer and they had it for 3 days. Replaced slave and new fluid. A little shocked to say the least. Did I boil the fluid? I have AUTOX'd the car a few times and I drive it pretty solid... any thoughts?

They break regardless of how you treat the car. It's a bad design.

welcome to the next thing you'll worry about everyday you drive..... :icon14:

mine broke at 24k miles, no track time just DD.

Yeah I'm just gonna rent a lift and change mine when it happens. Hopefully I won't have to take it anywhere. Guess it will depend on my scheduling time off to get it done. Just so much quicker to do it myself and not have to wait on someone else.

Calling dealer tomorrow about mine. Hasn't failed yet but Saturday it was not acting right. Starting my historical data on it...sigh.

Mine master cylinder died last week now I guess should change the slave as well. It dies all of a sudden as well, though mine has done 45k

Are there any aftermarket ones?

They're working on the master I think. Should have one soon-ish

didymus 07-24-2013 06:25 AM

AFAIK you should replace the master and slave both. There is an aftermarket slave, haven't heard of a master.

chknhawk 07-26-2013 11:38 PM

Yeah.. I am thinking master and slave should be changed at the same time. I did that once a long time ago on another car just changing the slave. bad move on my part. I know they didn't change the master. PLUS... one of my hanger bolts for my exhaust was missing as well. I got it home and heard some nasty rattling... i was pissed. hanger bolt gone. Took it up there again today to get one. SMH.

What I can't understand for the life of me is that these things (clutch cylinder, fuel starvation, fluid boiling) are not grounds for recalls and just plain old re-engineering. You don't have to have it at the track for the slave cylinder to go out.. when it does you might not have pedal anymore and that could be catastrophic. just my 2 bits.

My CSC just s#it the bed at 32,000 miles. Replacing with the ZSpeed HD slave and new OEM master. And just for S & Gs, a stage 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel while the tranny is dropped. Oddly, I just got the car back from Progressive after fixing a minor brushing with a box truck when it started losing pressure, so they are picking up the check for the labor.

OP you tore it up...wow. sorry buddy. How much did the reapir cost you?

chknhawk 08-08-2013 09:12 AM

Nada cost on dat ting! was eireeeee!!! :-P The dealer took care of it after I gave them the mean mug and put my benchmade on the desk with the blade pointing in their direction. Hows your baby going.. haven't heard from you in a while.

Z-Girl 12 08-08-2013 11:08 AM

My clutch pedal dropped to the floor at C&O this morning here in Atl. Towed it to work. (Audi Dealership). I guess it is my turn. Going aftermarket. 56978 miles of easy driving.
