I wouldn't call that out of line. a Few hours of work. It's easier to remove the alternator pulley with it on a workbench as opposed to being in on the vehicle. Labor is labor, unless you are doing it, sometimes it will cost more than the parts themselves.

I don't think it is too hard to do with basic tools.

DIY isn't hard. I would have felt comfortable doing it but I don't have the tools needed.
