1st gear unless I'm rolling through a stop sign or very slow traffic.

I think like 10 minutes after I started this thread I used first gear around the hood here. Im good with using it as a regular practice.

Also, few things that confirmed these driving methods were the convos with the service managers, and master techinicians about this at a few of my clients sites ( about 6 nissan dealerships in the phillly market that i cover ). They all admitted that pertaining to the manual trans in the 370z and the 07/08 350z they would driving it around using 2nd gear and only 1st on hills or just using the clutch only with no throttle while in traffic in 1st.

All the vehicles I had before I used first gear no matter what. Cause that is how I was taught.

And if something breaks, that's on me.

Lol you're silly. I guess you outwit the Nissan engineers who designed every facet of this car including the transmission. 1st gear is there for a reason and no where on the manual does it say use 1st gear on hills only! Like you said, if something breaks, it's on you. :) happy driving.

guess I'm weird, I use 1st all the time...

elperuano 10-08-2012 11:09 PM

Wait.... There's another gear besides 6th and "R"??????

Can't believe this is even a question. No offense OP but you likely just need more practice. I hope this won't insight tales of all the manual transmission Ferraris you've driven in the past.

Lol what a dumb question.

I didn't know skipping first gear was even a thing. I don't get it.

If accelerating is not for you, you may have bought the wrong car.

I'll skip gears, but never first. At highway intersections with a stoplight I will often find myself going 1st to 3rd to 6th.

A highway with a stoplight is just a road.

 Yeah, but a neighborhood street with a stoplight is also just a road. I don't usually go 1st to 3rd to 6th on a 30 mph road...

I was just busting your ba11s. Usually "highway" refers to a multi-lane road with no stoplights or intersections.

vrfreak 10-09-2012 02:55 PM

^lol
but seriously the only time i skip gears is downshift 5th to 3rd

Mt Tam I am 10-09-2012 03:43 PM

Is this a real question? I honestly use first gear with every start.

I recently passed a car that was going so slow I was in first gear following. When I made my pass, I was even with the other driver, and had to shift to second. this was a weird feeling.
