You can't base it off color, why not do an oil analysis to see the real condition of the oil?

not worth the trouble. i rather just do the oil change at a shorter interval

Castrol Fully Syntheic Oil. I change every 3000 miles.

It will do a few things for you--- Oil Analysis
-Give you the status/condition of your motor
-Confirm that you can or should change later
-Save you money for something else or your savings account

Educate yourself soon - Here is a news article and analysis of the issue from April 2012:

Redline is good. I will have a new UOA soon to verify, but check out the Oil Nerd's thread where I have posted data.

However, regardless of oil, I have (tentatively) concluded based on several different 370's UOA's that the optimal interval is about 4K for mixed city highway driving (not surprisingly, this is close to Nissan's recommendation too).

Kind of off topic...but what are you guys using for postage for these oil analysis? I was thinking of putting a couple stamps on the black bottle they sent me...but would that be enough?

3750 for hard use per the manual?? Your UOA from Blackstone said you should go 6000miles next time.

Porsche using Mobil 1 here in Germany recommends 12000km/7500miles for an oil change on a Twin Turbo. That car makes much more heat and here can be driven fast/hard depending on the owner. Id stick with the 6000mi recommendation from your post on the oil nerds thread.

I will be changing Mobil-1 5/30 again this summer here and getting my first UOA and will post it. Beyond that its a minimum of 5000miles for me with synthetic, if not more. The oils just are much better now. No need to waste money at all. Or more time changing it/visiting the dealer.

Agreed 100%.

I run redline and change oil around 3k miles... i'd rather change oil way too early then even a little too late. It's not that big of an expense to warrant getting every last bit of life out of the oil.

If it's true that you can run redline 5k or even 7.5k miles safely then by all means; go for it. I'll stick to playing it safe and sticking to the owners manual. That way i can feel comfortable.

I run Mobil 1 Extended Performance in my truck that gets driven once or twice a week. and I have no problem going 10k miles between changes. but i dont care much about the truck like i do the Z.

I'm not trying to state facts, or change anyone's opinions, just stating mine. :)

I have been running redline and I change my oil at 7500 with plenty of additive left . I was running until 7500 and sent a oil sample to BlackStone .. They said everything looks great and run the oil til 10,000 miles .. If it looks good I will change every 10,000 .. I abuse my car daily ..

Holy cow!! What type of filter were you using?

mantella87 06-29-2012 09:27 AM

Redline is the best oil, period. I'm going to pick up 6 quarts of it today. 7,500 miles between changes is fine.
