Brake light on dash while boosting

Hi, I've noticed lately my Brake light on the dash will come on while I'm boosting. Not all the time but it does it randomly. I checked my fluids and the levels are good. Sam at GTM confirmed it isn't something he programmed with UPREV as a warning light, which makes me feel better.

I'm just wondering if this is a random glitch or if it means something funny is going on with the car. She runs flawless otherwise. Could it be something related to an electrical glitch, a sign of the alternator going bad (less than 14k miles on the car), or something brake or traction control related? Could it be cuz I'm losing some traction while it is boosting so the brake light trips slightly before the VDC kicks on?

How much fluid do you have?

I have the same thing happen to me sometimes whenever I am WOT shifting into 2 and 3. It started after I ground my navtool to my ebrake, so I am afraid I over tightened it. But there haven't been any problems yet, and its been happening for over a month now.

Sounds like to low of fluid. Even though the level may seem good it's probably not enough under acceleration. Just make sure.

Thanks guys, the fluid level is good. With the car on level ground, the brake fluid is at the max fill line.

Just noticed the same problem recently, any solution?

have you replaced/removed your steering wheel? more than likely its your steering wheel positioning sensor.

theDreamer 05-03-2012 03:04 PM

Have you checked your brake fluid levels?

might help if you are experiencing this: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ways-help.html

Did not see that one, was jumping through quickly.
I know with some 350z the brake light would come on with the brake fluid level was getting low. Mine has done this before, but I never felt power loss or the car hold back.

Sounds like your VTECH pressure is way too high!

Yeah, SPOHN was right. Even though the brake fluid level seemed fine, I decided to add a little bit more in there anyways. It hasn't reappeared since.

I had the same problem a few months ago
I decided to add a bit more brake fluid and the light never came back ,, the oil level is now a bit higher than the Full line on the side.

Are you sure you're not losing vacuum? If the brake vacuum reservoir is getting all the vacuum bled out of it I could see that turning the light on... Have you tried barely pushing the brake pedal when the light comes on like that? If you had a stiff pedal that would be a good indicator...

MaDMaXX 05-16-2012 03:45 PM

It's brake fluid level.....

That light is, by design, supposed to come on when it thinks your brake fluid level is too low.

370Z Purist 05-24-2012 05:52 PM

increased pressure in the system plus expanding brake lines would "compress" enough fluid or fill up the increased volume in the lines to make the sensor think the fluid level is low when it's just preoccupied in some other condition...

SS brake lines + more fluid/better fluid = solution!
