What else can you do after the usual?

After the usual exhaust, intake, hfc/tp/longtubes and tune? Any other power adding mods short of forced induction?

I am a noob and just now realized we can't get aftermarket cams due to our engines having VVEL. So is this pretty much it for power mods short of FI?

edit: btw I am not interested in getting gears but I know those are available too

You could do pulleys if you want...

But after you've added all the power mods, best thing to do is make sure the drivetrain gets it to the street effectively. Work on Tranny mods. Should keep you busy till you're ready for FI.

I have been searching already man. An intake manifold hardly seems worth the money. they barely make any difference in power

After you do 'all the basics' as you put it, there really isn't that much more power left to get, so you scavenge everywhere you can.

Don't knock his answer, it's truthful to your question. :icon17:

Start doing weight reduction.

Agreed. Every 100 pounds lost is ~ to a 10 hp gain.

Could try cam gears

Skorch 02-01-2012 11:21 PM

What about 4.08 gears..? They say it's the most noticeable mod you can do to the car short of FI.

Electric supercharger!

.....runs like hell

The only thing keeping me from wanting to do that is that I read that it screws up the synchro rev match and I really love that feature, so no gears for me

IDZRVIT 02-02-2012 05:29 PM

Dingle balls. Well, they won't add power but your Z will be the only one around with these.

I was putting that off for the same reasons, but apparently it only throws it off by a couple hundred RPMs, so it will still be usable. I'll know for sure this Saturday.

Sweet, make sure you post updates here! Good luck with the install :driving:

This

Got my exhaust, HFCs and 4.08 gears installed. The power difference is truly amazing - it's like a whole new car now. I've very happy with the results.

As far as the effects on SRM, when downshifting, the revs are about 200 RPMs under what they should be. This doesn't bother me as all I do is release the clutch a little bit slower to make up for it.

congrats, thanks for the updates. 200 rpm is really not too bad. So you did not notice the SRM acting weird in any other way? I vaguely recall reading a post saying that the SRM started acting up somehow and then just stopped working.

How do you feel about traction in 1st and 2nd gear now?

I haven't noticed any other after-effects on the SRM so far. As far as traction goes, I can get traction in 1st but it's probably because my tires are still so new - I only have 4k miles on the car right now. 2nd gear holds traction all the way through and pulls like a mofo

Ligthweight flyhweel, lightweight/underdirve pulleys, lightweight motorcycle battery, lightweight 2-piece rotors, lightweight wheels, lightweight tires.

4.08 with SRM is fine as long as you use the stock clutch, anything heavier and its very noticeable and annoying. only caveat is that going over 120+mph triggers a warning and SRM disables itself until you restart the car.

Good to know, thanks for the info. Looks like if/when I go with an aftermarket clutch I'll most likely stop using SRM altogether
