You might want to take it back. RP has never had good lab results on the VQ and other cars from Welcome and now this happened. If you want a good oil, get Penzoil Plat for $20 bucks at Walmart 5 quart jug. It has shown the best results out of them all right now for wear, etc.

Although I have seen no hardcore proof that Royal Purple has not been a good choice for VQ motors, I will continue to do research into Amsoil. Amsoil is another good oil that apparently contains esters.

I have sent an email to Amsoil asking about esters, so hopefully I will have a response by tomorrow.

For those interested, Costco has Mobile1 for $35 per case with a $10 discount (limit 3). That's 6 qts of M1 for $25. Good till the end of the month with member coupon. I bought 3 cases.

Does it concern anyone that Royal Purple is not API certified? And that it's API Service is SL in lieu of SM? I'm starting to lean towards AMSOIL. Lucky for me I have 3750 miles to think about it.

Holding my quart of Royal Purple. On the back it clearly has a "API Service SL" "Energy Conserving" SAE 5w-30 stamp on it.

on the bottom it says "Royal Purple Meets or exceeds API Service SL warrenty requirements for the gasoline engines. it also meets GM4718m Gasoline engine and oil performance and fuel economy specifications."

Im still seriously thinking about useing royal purple.

Nissan Says: "Select only engine oils that meet the American Petroleum Institute (API) certification or ....

The certification mark is with the star emblem (not found on RP). Also they're example for the API Service has SM (not SL like RP). All this may be moot, but I'm just curious of other's opinions.
