After running it for a day, I decided, while it has a more realistic clutch feel, I didn't like the free-play in the pedal. Re-installed for now.

I did this myself and all I can say i love it. Its alot smoother and easier to shift it kinda reminds me of the exedy hyper single i had in another car. The only thing that got me thinking was if there will be any negative side effects. You guys think it will mess something up in the tranny? They put it on for a reason, which I dont know why.

You might wanna read the last couple pages of this thread.

When you guys mod your car do you worry about ruining something? This mod is by far the easiest that costs only a few minute of your time. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Guys had been running without that spring since 2009 and still no issues.

I finally drove my car today after taking the spring out. I like it a lot. Feels so much better. No more artificial linear crap.

Yes, it takes a wee bit more effort to press the pedal down and there is a bit of free play at the top, but in my opinion these little down sides do not outweigh the benefits. I'll now try to find a softer spring to see if this will get rid of the free play and add some lateral stability without loosing the added feel.

I'm not saying by any means to not do this but when you mod a car you usually replace something with a "better" thing or add something that wasn't there before. This is removing something without putting anything different in its place so I understand the concern for long term damage.

I already read them. The thing is someone came on and said it might cause long term damages. But everyone kinda just went on and still did it. But what if that one person is right.

All I can tell you is that there is very little side to side play with the spring removed. His concern was that it might be possible to put extra stress on the master cylinder because this spring is no longer there. While it's good to be aware of possible issues, no one in the G community has reported any kind of failures related to this mod so at this point its just speculation.

If you are still debating the possible ramifications don't do this mod, the clutch clearly doesn't bother you enough to make it worth it

Yes, do this and you can have the benefits of both. With the softer springs, you get rid off the play with the same feel without the spring. I know because this mod was very familiar with german cars like Porsche.

Why do so many car companies do this sh*t to begin with? Who in their right mind prefers this crappy linear feel over an actual clutch feel?

Maybe they designed it That way so females can drive it with ease

one of my best friends who's a girl drives a 2006 WRX, her clutch is still heavier than the Z with the spring removed :icon17:

for those interested im giving the spring to a local company near me to get a spring matched up but 75% easier to compress.
