The 3/36 warranty just expired but, it's a Certified Pre-Owned so I still have the 7yr/100k warranty. Should I be covered? |

I called a local Nissan dealer (Glendale, Ca.) and was told this would only be covered under the orig. 3/36, not under the CPO 7/100k... and he said that the CPO warranty is "very very basic coverage", not sure what he meant by that. ***Update...So, I called a couple other dealerships and finally found a helpful service mgr. @ Miller Nissan in Van Nuys. She told me to bring it in for inspection. If a leak is found all parts (including new GTR fluid) will replaced under the CPO warranty. If no leak is found, they'll bleed the system & put in the GTR fluid but, that will not be under warranty. Btw, she said they don't need to drop out the tranny to determine if there's an internal leak. As for the fluid swap not being under the CPO warranty. I'm going to argue that, 1) they should do it under the 'good will' policy since the orig. factory warranty just expired a few days ago. 2) Nissan has been aware of this issue since at least April of 2013. I bought the car in October 2013, the dealer, knowing this was a common issue, should've swapped out the clutch fluid before selling me the car. Especially considering this is a CPO Z. |
Filed my complaint to the NTHSA.gov about this part..today!

Everyone that has had it fail needs to file a complaint for something to happen.

Update#2...took her to Miller Nissan in Van Nuys today.
They did their inspection and then told me they're bleeding the clutch and putting in the GTR 'special' brake fluid. They're giving me the 'good will' deal so, no charge (even though the orig. factory 3/36 warranty had just expired). After changing the fluid, they'll re-test and if needed, replace the CSC and/or CMC at no charge to me. I've got to give a shoutout to Linda in the service dept. @ Miller. She's been very cool from my 1st phone call. Totally understanding too. She also had her courtesy car drive me to work in Hollywood, which was well outside of their normal drop off radius. If I ever have to go to a dealership again, it'll be Miller Nissan. |

They said they couldn't find any leaks (external or internal) when they inspected my Z. I'm concerned that replacing the fluid only is just a temp. fix (as z man has noted) I took my Z out after they did the fluid swap and drove her pretty hard but, the oil temp. never got above about 190f. When I initially had the problem, the oil temp was up around 220f. If my CSC or CMC is gonna fail, I'd like it to happen while my CPO warranty is still active....I've got until 2017 and/or about 80k miles before it runs out. |
I called my dealer, they said nothing is outstanding for my car... Wasn't there a TSB?

Interesting that I am reading this. Yesterday, I had the exact same issue identified on a brand new 2014 Track. Clutch all the way to the floor with no pressure. Finally came back but the 1-2 upshift seems way off now and the clutch has significantly more play in it. Had it for one month and no clutch drops, etc. Just some "spirited" driving. Going to contact my dealer about the bulletin. Great thread forum!

After 3 tows to the dealer for the same issue, this time got a brand new clutch along with a slave master

Mine only got really light.. never got stucked to the floor. Checked the clutch fluid and it was really dark. Replaced it and haven't had issues for the moment. Order a braided steel line and RBF600 brake fluid just to be careful...

I know this isn't a "Panacea" for clutch failure but I keep my fluid clean. The moment I notice it getting dirty, out it goes (from reservoir) and in goes new. Pump a few times, check it again, and if still dirty more out then more in. Don't have to change fluid often, maybe once a month (DD) but I feel better keeping the clutch dust out of the system as much as possible. Of course, where it gets in (around the O-Ring on the CSC sleeve) is impossible to prevent.
A funny thing I've noticed is that the black stuff "floats" to the top of the reservoir when I put clean fluid in. It looks like smoke rising from the outlet of the reservoir when the clean fluid is transparent, it's really easy to see. |
Just as an FYI, Z1 appears to now offer both a heavy duty replacement CSC as well as a kit that eliminates the CSC entirely

Now, what about the master cylinder?

I'm going on like two 2 years on Motul 600 without issues. I think some of you are jumping on this "slave failure" bandwagon without trying some things.
The first time I did Autocross I had like 20k on the car and after one lap the pedal stuck to the floor and I had to pop it up with my toes and continue. I went the entire day like that, no ***** given. When I got home I flushed the clutch lines and replaced the stock **** with Motul 600 and I've tracked my Z several times and Autocross'd it a ton and I have NEVER had an issue since then. I have 54k on the car now and runs like new. Stock everything in the drivetrain besides fluids. |

However, We do have an "Adjustable Throw CSC Delete Kit" in the works which will allow the end user to adjust and fine tune the engagement smoothness and release point for any type of clutch. Actually has been in development for going on 2 years now but have not released it yet, We want to test it further before releasing it and make a few minor changes before it is finalized. |

I look forward seeing the results of your kit as well  |
Mine failed 2 days ago. Took it to the dealers, was covered under warranty. They replaced the master and slave cylinders, flushed my system and use whatever the GTR uses. Everything works great so far.

What dealership did you go to? Did they find internal/external leaking? Is that what prompted the CSC & CMC to be replaced? In my case, they only drained the system and put in the GTR brake fluid. Their inspection couldn't find any internal or external leakage. I still wish they would've replaced the CSC & CMC. It's working fine just now, but I wonder for how long? I'm still under the CPO warranty for another 70K or until 2017. |
For me, pedal went to the floor, changed fluids, then pedal was decent but never was back to normal pedal feel. Then I had a grind downshifting from 6th to 5th, then 3rd to 2nd, replace transmission fluid didnt do anything. Took it to dealer, they replaced csc and cmc, pedal was perfect again, then about 6-8 months later, started to get the same grind, not wasting my time at dealer and forked over for the Zspeed csc and oem cmc. Well worth the upgrade.

Hi all,
I've just encountered the sticky clutch problem today. A bit of car background, 2010 RHD 6MT Sport bought in Sept 2013 with less than 2000km on the clock. First serviced at the dealer was around 2012 with 1700+km on the clock. Has never done any spirited driving in the past until it came to me. Changed transmission fluid and rear diff fluid cos it was all dark brown in color. It's been a weekend car till now. It's got 12513km on the clock and its mean't to be driven like a Sports car should be. FAST but safe. Today was a hot day and it was driven for 25 min at an average speed of 180 km/h. Oil temp reading was around 110 mark. At 5 min from destination clutch pedal was stuck halfway. After, I had cooled down the car because was in a meeting for 2 hrs came and started it back, clutch was still halfway down. Took it down to my local garage, and had the change tranny fluid change, it went back up on its own accord. I called the dealer to ask the price of the GTR clutch fluid and was informed that its US$191 per litre. WTF. So any ideas are really appreciated in terms of other fluids to replace the GTR one. Thank you |
Motul RBF600 should work just fine. Are you sure they didn't quote you for the GTR transmission fluid by mistake? You want their brake fluid, not transmission fluid.
|
Well, I did ask specifically that if, I wanted to replace the clutch fluid how much would it cost. Also, cos I kept getting passed around and probably got lost in translation with them.
Thank you |
It really isn't that hard to do yourself if you have a jack, jack stands and a friend. Just make sure that you don't get air into the MC because it will never come out.

Mine did the clutch pedal to the floor at 4100 miles and I limped into a parking lot. Had the car towed to the dealer that I bought the car from and they have flushed the clutch fluid and replaced with GTR brake fluid. I'll see how it drives and we'll see if that fixes the issue. They made me aware of the service bulletin regarding the issue.

Complaint filed. Thx for the link.

This might be the issue with my clutch!
On Sunday, after an hour of highway driving, at ~60MPH I hit both the clutch and brake pedals hard to avoid a BMW that suddenly wanted to be where I was. The next time I needed the clutch (a few seconds later), the pedal went to the floor and stuck there. Luckily I was able to pull to the shoulder and get it unstuck, but ever since it just hasn't felt right. Today I decided to get it checked out: I have a service appointment for Thursday morning (I need the car tomorrow), but in the meantime I thought I'd come here in case anyone had an idea of what might have happened. I don't think my car is under warranty anymore: it's a 40th, so it's four years old (though it only has 20,000 miles on it). I didn't read all 27 pages of this thread, so I don't know if cost has been discussed, but I'm worried about it being an expensive fix. Mostly I'm worried about this becoming a recurring problem. Meh. |
