Up next: Video games where all you have to do is hit start, then then the game just plays for you.

And after that, much like the player piano's of the early 1900's, car will drive for us and maybe we will be able to get them programed to be driven to a certain style... Maybe a Tanner Faust download...then you just sit back, in any seat and maybe the back seat and get driven to work or the grocery store without having any input. So much FUN

All I really care about is performance.

The 7AT on our cars shifts very fast, can be tuned to shift faster, and shows no evidence of greater drivetrain losses than the MT. As such, the 7AT is typically found a bit quicker than the 6MT in magazine tests of straight line acceleration.

The 6AT on the FR-S shifts slower and shows definite greater drivetrain loss than the 6MT for that car -- pass!

The Veloceter has a dual clutch AT that is found much slower in road/magazine tests than it's MT counterpart -- not sure on drivetrain losses, but also pass.

There are very few quirks with the 370's 7AT that are not greatly outweighed by its merits -- it only fluid couples in first anyway, so with full lock up, it's a solid, direct connection between engine, gear, and driveshaft.

If Nissan can make a tranny for the next gen Z that is a dual clutch type -- great! Provided, of course, it delivers better performance than the current offering. If it can't why bother? Just refine the current offering so that I can continue to endure traffic jams and still have a blast on an open road.

not sure if they're laughing because bad grammar and supposed to be "an automatic" or because automatic transmission

why you bring out a veloceter. we're talking cars, not appliances with skinny sedan tires.

No need to argue over transmissions. I'm just tired of all the torque converter comments. If it shifts nearly as quick as a dual clutch, proves to be more reliable than a dual clutch, and deff shifts faster than a human then where is the down side.

I loved the manuals back in the day but now with traffic and the stop and go in most major cities causes havoc driving anything with a clutch in it. Try eating a candy bar or drink your coffee on the way to work. Try having your wife drive one listening the grinding and lugging of the gears. Shall I go on??? The Auto's are fantastic to drive and if you want to play, just hit the paddles and go. Nothing wrong with either but my preference is the auto and it's good for the old farts that drive them.

Well, for one it damn sure can't handle the power the 6mt can. If you like it that's great but let's not make it out to be second coming of Christ.

^ Exactly my wife nearly destroyed my STI 6 speed. If it wasn't for the 370z 7at I'd be driving some bloated infinity or Lexus sedan.

Yea I was referring to tadpoles post...... And Chuck the manual is by far stronger your absolutely right. My car is stock and I have no interest in modding if I did I would have of course picked the MT. But as I stated earlier I needed a car me and my wife could both enjoy. I certainly don't think it's the greatest thing ever but for a torque converted auto it's pretty god damn impressive.
