That's my fear.

it can happen in any car. few years back we had an automatic bimmer that conked out on the freeway. middle lane, rush hour morning traffic. yea... i have never been so scared in a car in my entire life.

I disagree. I spend most of my time in 6th gear at around 65-75. The car sounds fine at this RPM. Once you dip under 60mph, then it starts to drone but I'm downshifting into 5th by that speed. I daily drive the car. I had a catless, turboback exhaust SRT-4 before this car, I know what drone is.

A big part of the drone also comes from a 7AT vs a 6MT. The AT is always putting the car into a gear where drone is massively present on the FI.

Using the paddles can be fun... until you use them to downshift. Then the delay makes it less fun. The auto does a very good job if left to its own devices, I find.

........the delay?

the auto downshifts just as fast if not faster than any and all manual drivers.

also the auto left to "it's own devices" is like a special olympics kid. it does a good job and gets a medal but in manual mode is where it shines.

I'm talking about the delay from when you demand a shift to a lower gear (click the paddle) to when it actually does it.

not sure how much you know about the car/tranny but it's almost instantly.

the delay between the paddle/stick movement and gear changing is very fast.

You like to leave the D in too?

It feels so good.

Though, I like to finger the paddles too sometimes, so I take the D out.

uh really? you know it's sort of slow (even with SRM) to downshift in manual's... like maybe 0.5 seconds. a lot of the newer paddle shift cars can do that in half the time.

maybe you need to tune your car and not have throttled gas input

Not if there's nothing to seed.

Though, I just play with my stick now. Tight leather grip. Six gears, three pedals.

It's fun.

I know auto vs manual both have their pros and cons. An auto is faster, Yes.
I personally get bored driving an automatic to the point where id rather have someone drive me around. I feel more involved and focused with a manual, its personal and gratifying. id rather battle up hill traffic in the city with a manual any day over a auto. just saying from working 6 years in the city driving different cars/truck with manual trannys
