do you also get a loud metallic click/clunk when you go over a sharp bump? sounds more like loose brake pads to me. i am using Remsa pads and they seem loose inside the caliper, therefore causing a clunk when i hit a sharp bump in the road. i get the same noise when changing directions.

have you changed the brake pads before?

limited733 09-16-2014 01:14 AM

Nope only when i brake, but please check the two videos it has something to do with the handbrake.I changed the original akenobos with ebc red stuff but still the same issue as before.

juld0zer 09-16-2014 04:27 AM

how did you replace the pads? push the pins out and swap pads or did you remove the 2 big bolts and remove the caliper?

limited733 09-16-2014 05:07 AM

I pushed the pins out and swap the pads

Just went to the dealership here in Charlotte. Told them the car was clicking from both axles. The service manager told me he'd have the techs take a look and that generally a going-over was $99. He had me wait in the waiting room. About an hour later, he found me, said they had fixed the problem by greasing both axles and found TSB NTB12-055d for the problem. No charge (including the $99 I was originally quoted). Walked out with no money spent and a click-less car. Attached is a picture of the invoice. The manager said this should be covered under the 6-year 60,000-mi warranty which as of today's date covers all 370Z's. This should be a free fix if you are reading this.

This noise/problem is annoying and I didn't expect it in a 'modern' sports car. That being said, I own a 1960 sports car and have about 15 things I have to grease every 3-5,000 miles per the owners manual.

Well I filed a complaint with nissan North America. The responded within 24 hours surprisingly. May call them if I feel it's worth the time. Y'all think it is? They gave me a case number and a list if what they wanted from me.

Let us know how it goes. I filed a complaint with them for my clutch pedal breaking off and they wouldn't do anything about it. My dealer did just repack my axles for free though.

I took in today 57k miles to my Nissan tech and he found the clicking noise at low speeds and when shifting into park, drive and reverse. Told me he's ordered the Drive Shaft ($800+) free of charge no questions asked. :-) Guess im glad to have had a great relationship with not only my tech, but my service writer too! I always leave a $20 spot for them both to get lunch anytime I'm in the service bay.. anyhow Soon as its complete i'll update to confirm if it solves the clicking/clunking noise in the rear.

I might ask about that. Can we get a pic of the paperwork?

I had my axles regreased by the dealer and it still clicks

1slow370 11-04-2014 11:21 AM

see there are multiple sources of the click/clunk just depends on whats failed if you have a failin u joint in your drive shaft it will do this too(just less likely).

I can get a clunk when I shift from Park to Reverse and let the break go as the car start rolling. if I press on the break and stop the car, it will not clunk again until I shift to first gear and back to Reverse. I'm thinking to bring it in to dealer and have them look up the brushing see if that is the problem. I had change the diff fluid around 6 month ago.

Hey guys

I know this is an outdated thread but I purchased my 09 and had the issue in the rear and front. Front they didn't fix (taking it back in Thursday) but the rear they replaced the rear driveshaft. Just wanted to share my experience and potential help the next soul.

It was under warranty so I am hopeful the front end clunk is just a lube job like the other post states.

Sounds like i wasnt the only one. My rear.. what sounds like my driftshaft shakes and shutters from a cold start. I can hear it inside as my rear is gutted.
I checked the driveshaft and it has some play into it, correct me if im wrong, but is some free play normal?
It clunks when going into a stop on shift mode which ive been thinking its the driveshaft catching first gear

I'm having the same issues.. car just went out of warranty as well.. what should I do??????????

ts1412 12-27-2016 09:42 AM

They just replaced the entire driveshaft here.

The same noise is coming from my front end now too. Same as your cause in shift mode going from 2nd into first. I'm going to have them check it. If they say nothing is broken, I will take note of this and bring it back to them if there was something wrong.

I think it's frustrating having a clunk sound though. I will update Thursday once I get my vehicle back from the dealer and see what they say about the front clunk.

Do you hear your rear shake or shutter at a cold start up? It happens to me on very cold mornings.. I have a 7at and when going to a stop on shift mode it clunks going from second to first gear for me.

I have the 7at as well it happens when I put it into D or coming out of D and into R. M mode or 1st gear it does not.

ts1412 12-28-2016 11:35 AM

Yes. Exactly what happens to me. I am hopeful it's not another driveshaft or axle replacement but I will update all tomorrow!

ts1412 12-30-2016 01:48 PM

So....after a couple hours waiting in the waiting room, the service manager, tech, and service advisor call me out. Explain to me why the rear was replaced (loose bracket or something) and the front is nothing to worry about and it will harm nothing.

While I half heartedly believe them, I'm glad I brough it in, so that way if something does break in the near future, they had an opportunity to fix it and hopefully after warranty expires they'll fix it since I logged this as a potential issue.

I'll update all once my front axle unbolts itself from my car at freeway speeds.

God bless

Looking for the rear axle / hub torque specs. I have tried to find them but I have come up empty handed. Trying to fix the rear axle clunk noise. Thanks.

Wonka2581 01-23-2017 04:51 PM

Dude used lock tight on his axle splines instead of grease.. thoughts on this??
