Default normal MAP sensor readings at idle

Just curious as to whether anyone knows what the normal reading for our MAP sensors on our cars should be. my MAP sensor is giving a reading of a little over 12 inHg at idle and don't know if that's low (indicating either a bad MAP sensor or vacuum leak) or if it's within normal range on our cars. any feedback is appreciated and thanks in advance

P.S.

I did do a forum search and even looked in the FSM, but couldn't find any info on this in either place

I don't remember seeing it but my memory ain't what it used to be.

Sensor output range and expected values are usually given in the FSM. You should be able to check with a VOM. Many PDF readers will allow you to search all the documents in a folder. I'd try searching for "MAP sensor" or "MAP +sensor".

Good luck and please let us know what you find out.

No worries, i had no issue finding what you described in the fsm as it was under engine management section, i was just curious if anyone had taken the time with a scangauge to see what the normal inHg reading was in a normally functioning 370. Im gonna be replacing 4 gaskets in the upperhalf of the engine this weekend so I guess I'll be the guinea pig as to if having a vacuum leak brings that number down

Update: the reading on my scangauge went from reading close to 13 down to 7.4, not sure whether that's good or not, but definitely feel a significant difference in power.

My MAP pressure is around 11 in/hg at idle. Not sure if that’s right or not, but my car is running super lean
