It seems like my lucky is always bad with this car. Tried to start the engine and it was acting weird. Upon a closer inspection it appears that bank 1 has bent valves or some funny business going on. 220 compression on bank 2 while bank 1 varies between 105-130.

Any ideas? I'm going to hope that the timing is off and will retime it tonight but if it's bent valves then it's time for another motor *

FACK

did the motor come with any kind of warranty?

jmroy6 04-11-2018 03:14 PM

Did you re-time the motor since you bought it? otherwise id get your money back for buying a lemon.

Never touched the timing chain. I did take off the cover as it was very very corroded and switched it with mine.

I hope i can get a refund back. It really sucks how far I got only to be set back once again :(..

I did retime it today incase the timing was off and redid the leak down test only to have it fail it with flying colors. Could it be that I'm missing something? It's very confusing honestly.

It's very frustrating to do everything perfect only to end up here. I'm not sure where to go on from this point with this build.

Here's a quick time lapse of what I did today. Phone died when I took the chain off and retimed it.

id recheck timing for bank 1, maybe its off a tooth or two? Otherwise you have bent valves/bad rings.

this is so disappointing to see, keep us updated on what you find!

So I learned a new thing yesterday!

Engines that sit for a while get their rings stuck sometimes and just running and revving the damn thing makes it fix itself sometimes.

After spending 8 hours taking the cover and oil pan off and retiming the engine only to have 80% leakdown still, I almost gave up and called a local junkyard to deliver a new engine to me. At the last minute I decided to put the cover back on and just start revving. 5 minutes later I redid the leakdown and compression and every single cylinder has 5% leakdown and 220psi :)

I hope this is the last of my funny luck with this car. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a371973bf0.jpg

Nice, isn't that called an Italian tune up or something?

husam2012 05-02-2018 09:13 PM

A happy update so far for you guys!

Inlets are done, I used a bunch of couplers I got from Amazon plus the same piping kit I got last summer! Only thing left is the lower intercooler piping then she's ready to be street tuned.

I have also applied to be an ecutek tuner this week as I have gained a little bit of experience at work. They accepted me but the price is a bit high so I'm hoping to sell a few things this week to pay them.

I used my CNC coolant adapter to route my new lines and then used a GTR thermostatic housing to plumb my overflow tank!

A question for the experienced members on this forum..

I filled up my car with coolant and started it to try and bleed the air out but the fans never turn on!

The car got up to 100C coolant temp and then i turned it off. They don't come on at all but I'm sure they're not faulty as they turn on for a few seconds when flashing a rom..

Any ideas? I've seen one member on here mention the same exact issue but never posted how he fixed it.

Try to turn the ac on. It should force the fans on. It worked for my g37s.

Not sure exactly how you filled it, but, if you filled it without having the bleed valves open you may have already introduced an air lock into the system.
I dont think its possible to bleed it properly after the fact
I would drain & refill.

glad to see you in the home stretch

She's alive and well! I've been street tuning it this past few days and I've learned a lot.

I'm not even close to being good but I've got my tune nailed down on a very conservative timing map at the moment and will keep refining it on the street and finally finish it on the dyno in a few weeks.

I'm estimating I'm around 500whp at the moment and shooting for 600-630 on E85

Things are finally looking up from this point and it's been an addicting drive every single second :)
