I decided to not use the GTR intercoolers this time as I found a good deal on the CJM intercooler with 3” piping.

Thanks Justin!
Wish me luck that it can be finished before April this time around

so just thinking on paper here

If you were to remake both engine mount brackets to extend lower and then have a physically thinner engine mount. Is there enough room everywhere else that would allow a 3" intake off the turbo?

I know that's getting off the budget build theme but maybe for a V3 kit if there is such a demand?

Hell the z1 mounts are adjustable....hmmmmm

Yes, that would be very possible. I could get someone to make a solid mount that is an inch shorter then extend the bracket an inch lower.
My only concern is that it might not gain anything more than a few whps. If you decide to upgrade the GT-R Turbos down the road to support then it would be worth it.

So how much are you going to sell the dyi kit for? I really want to buy one.

husam2012 01-24-2018 10:19 PM

Got awesome news from ihiryu!

He started installing my kit last week and just finished street tuning it today.

I'm really happy that he called me as he had great news and a great impression of how this kit feels on the street and how his install went with little to no issues.

He will be posting a thread this week hopefully regarding his install and I can't wait to see his dyno sheet :)

Unfortunately I cannot discuss that in this thread. Please contact me at my gmail if you have any questions.

While I'm waiting for the inlets and gaskets to arrive, here's some off topic entertainment.

First time working on a GTR and guess what I had to do? A full engine with e85, bigger Xona turbos

It wasn't that hard as much as it was really time consuming. I wish our engine bay had that extra inch or so of space

So here's something I've been thinking about. If these turbos fit, will others stock location turbos work, I mean upgraded stock size turbos.

I'm sure you have way more experience than me but I just got lucky and stumbled on this part time job :) I wish i knew how to mold that sub enclosure :O

Yep, they actually do! I've tested the turbos off this GT-R I'm working on which made 1000 whp before the rebuild, and they fit fine other than needing a little more clearance on the motor mount bracket(easy fix)

Been busy with work, school and life but finally about to put it back together this month.

This used engine has a hideous timing cover that is also leaking near the thermostat so I'm going to be changing it with my previous engine's cover.

Decided to polish it while I'm at it, about to be done soon hopefully

Finally finished that GTR build and it was done with the final tune today. Made almost 1040whp on e85!!

I'm currently finishing up the oil/coolant lines and hopefully by Wednesday I'll have everything wrapped up in that regard and will update you guys by then.

Thank you for helping me out! Hopefully you will enjoy the boost soon :)

Going slower than I expected again :/ just ordered all the fittings for the oil/coolant lines and they came out to be almost $200 not including lines

Finally finished the timing cover and about to install it today along with the oil pan and the engine side would be finished.

Yeah after sanding and polishing it never came out even so I decided to just paint and put a clear coat over it. I didn't want my engine to look that oxidized

Hopefully you can snag them up for under $600! I can't wait to see your car running around with this kit :)

Finally getting closer!
All my fitting are coming in tomorrow so I can finally finish the coolant and oil lines and everything is looking good so far thankfully.

Didn't do much today as I found out I don't have push lock hoses or coolant fittings but hoping I'll have then Friday so I can finish on the weekend.

This coolant fitting makes everything look way cleaner than before and will help a lot with heat hopefully.

Is that the picture messing with me or did you find an oil galley in the block to feed the passenger turbo from?

also lemme know if you're making more of those coolant adapter blocks.

I was planning on using the throttle body coolant nipples and welding/brazing Tee fittings in both locations

No you are correct. I found it on the passenger side and used an m8 1.25 banjo for the turbo feed line.

I am making a couple more of those coolant adapters. Pm/text me for more info :)

I'm pretty much done and would of had the engine back in if it wasn't for the stupid auto crank spacer. Still trying to figure that out and hopefully engine will be back in before the weekend.

Meanwhile I finally finished a few things on the car itself. Fuel pump basket modified and walbro 450 installed along with fixing a few broken bolts here and there on the chassis. Also finished installing the steering rack brace and the subframe brace is finally back on!

Yes, I'm using that adapter to feed the driver side turbo and an oil pressure sensor.

GT-R turbos on the VQ37

Engine's finally back in and I cranked it before installing to double check leaks and oil pressure a s everythings good so far!
Going to the exhaust shop this week to make a few downpipes then after that it's time to figure out the location of the inlet filter and tune shortly after

Fabbing the downpipes has taken longer than I had expected but hoping it's going to be done Friday. I'm also expecting my ported lower and upper manifolds today along with my injectors!

For anybody that was wondering, the passenger side oil source did turn out to be functional as I tested it by cranking the engine over and checking the turbo drain line.

Here's a couple teasers :)

It seems like my lucky is always bad with this car. Tried to start the engine and it was acting weird. Upon a closer inspection it appears that bank 1 has bent valves or some funny business going on. 220 compression on bank 2 while bank 1 varies between 105-130.

Any ideas? I'm going to hope that the timing is off and will retime it tonight but if it's bent valves then it's time for another motor *

Did you re-time the motor since you bought it? otherwise id get your money back for buying a lemon.

Never touched the timing chain. I did take off the cover as it was very very corroded and switched it with mine.

I hope i can get a refund back. It really sucks how far I got only to be set back once again :(..

I did retime it today incase the timing was off and redid the leak down test only to have it fail it with flying colors. Could it be that I'm missing something? It's very confusing honestly.

It's very frustrating to do everything perfect only to end up here. I'm not sure where to go on from this point with this build.

Here's a quick time lapse of what I did today. Phone died when I took the chain off and retimed it.

jmroy6 04-12-2018 11:43 AM

id recheck timing for bank 1, maybe its off a tooth or two? Otherwise you have bent valves/bad rings.

this is so disappointing to see, keep us updated on what you find!

husam2012 04-14-2018 05:08 PM

So I learned a new thing yesterday!

Engines that sit for a while get their rings stuck sometimes and just running and revving the damn thing makes it fix itself sometimes.

After spending 8 hours taking the cover and oil pan off and retiming the engine only to have 80% leakdown still, I almost gave up and called a local junkyard to deliver a new engine to me. At the last minute I decided to put the cover back on and just start revving. 5 minutes later I redid the leakdown and compression and every single cylinder has 5% leakdown and 220psi :)

I hope this is the last of my funny luck with this car. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a371973bf0.jpg

Nice, isn't that called an Italian tune up or something?

husam2012 05-02-2018 09:13 PM

A happy update so far for you guys!

Inlets are done, I used a bunch of couplers I got from Amazon plus the same piping kit I got last summer! Only thing left is the lower intercooler piping then she's ready to be street tuned.

I have also applied to be an ecutek tuner this week as I have gained a little bit of experience at work. They accepted me but the price is a bit high so I'm hoping to sell a few things this week to pay them.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0baf717e1a.jpg

I used my CNC coolant adapter to route my new lines and then used a GTR thermostatic housing to plumb my overflow tank!
