Default smog check failure ..

Recently I have been to the smog check three times, but still it says the catalyst is not ready for check even after driving around 200 miles on freeway without traffic.

There was no code about that catalyst, but additionally I got the code P0335 from the second check.

Anyone knows how to solve this problem?

If you reset the ECM recently, you have to go through several drive cycles (not just number of miles) before the emissions system is ready. Details are in the FSM.

Several months ago, I got a new battery (Nissan-genuine) installed. But I don't know whether the ECU was reset at that time.

If the battery was disconnected for very long, the ECM was reset. But it only takes a few days (depending on your driving habits) for emissions to read ready. The conditions that have to be met are listed in the FSM.

Your problem may be related to the P0335 (crankshaft position sensor) you saw. If the code has reappeared, get that fixed and see if it fixes the emissions problem.

Yesterday night I intentionally drove 150 miles around on the freeway .. but today it is still not ready.

Thanks for the info.

It's been a few years since I even glanced at the emissions section of the FSM but, IIRC, it's not so much the number of miles driven as the number of times the system is brought up to normal operating temperature and then cooled off.

If you plan on doing any of your own trouble-shooting or repairs, the FSM is an invaluable resource.

is the warning light on? my impression is that you would fail the calif smog test if there is anything that may impact the emission.

Default smog check failure ..

I had this problems when I first got the Z. First private purchase for me and seller did not smog.
I had everything in check but the cats. It said it was not ready. From what i have read and all I have done is drive it.
I drove less than 200 miles, but i also ran it pretty hard as I was still pretty excited to own a Z.

About an hour before my smog, I went out and did a handful of WOT in high rpms. I read that heating up the cat before a smog is good.. dont count me on that though.

So, i dont know at which point where my cat was "ready", but I had done the above in 2 days.

Just my .02
