Is your car NA? If so, then just take it easy until your oil temp is in operating range. If you have moved on to forced induction, then I guess you will have to use your own judgment.

I don't roll out until the water temp moves over one dot from full cold, and I don't pass 3500 rpm until oil is at operating temp.

Operating temps before driving
I usually let it idle until the dots on the bottom of the gas gauge hits the third or fourth dot before easing it away.
I live pretty deep in my neighborhood so that bottom dot is usually in the 'operating range' (when the dot doesnt move anymore). Im not sure what that dot is.. water temp? Im also a smoker. Yes I smoke in the Z. That usually helps during idle I never floor the gas though, not until temps has reached atleast 150.. others might say around 180. With an installed oil cooler (19 row), my temp wont reach past 200. I only see 200 for a brief moment Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Start and go here. SF bay area, occasionally temps are down in the 40s during winter. Shift at 3k till it hits 160, up to 4.5k till 180, then I stop worrying about temp. My cars have lasted long time with this method. I try not to run it under 2k too.
