2009 370Z - Broken Fuel Pump

Just wanted to post this in case anyone else starts running into problems. As when i was searching and reading through potential problems here as i tried to start my car and wait for the tow truck i gave my car cancer and thought it was going to die.

I have a 2009 370Z with just under 35k miles.

Well my car left me stranded wouldn't start but my fuel gauge read 1/2 a tank.

I noticed in the morning the car was stuttering during acceleration and thought it was the VDC kicking in or I hit the redline accidentally and I just ignored it. That was only sign of issues i had.

I made a few stops and eventually the last one my car wouldn't start. After about 20 minutes of trying to start my car in 100 degree heat i gave up and called a tow truck.

Went to the dealership and what do you know the damn car starts the first time they try.

They said they would keep it overnight and try again in the morning. First thing in the morning the car wouldn't start for them either.

Turns out my fuel pump was completely broken in half and hanging in an empty gas tank. The tech said he's never seen a fuel pump broken like this and can't figure out how it happened.

I'm guessing i had a bad one all along but since i hardly drive my car it took 7 years and 35k miles for it to finally present itself.

Anyhow hopefully my story might help some of you that might come across the same problem.

OK I am having the exact same symptoms. Started this morning.
Same stutter, but at about 4500 rpm. Although mine flashed the VDC, I knew there was no way I was losing traction. After stutter no more prob.
Same 1/2 tank when I know there is only 1/4 left in tank.

Odd thing is I heard a clunk from the behind me somewhere. I thought maybe I hit popped a rock up or something, it was a little dark this morning.
maybe that was the pump smacking the tank. UGGGGHHHH

She drove home with no prob, but I am thinking she is gonna sit and rest for a few days after reading your post.

GRRRRRRR

2011 with 44500 on odometer.
I was looking for just the sending unit after looking though posts figured that might be the prob, but know I am thinking.
Sending unit $130 from dealer
I did find a fuel pump for $250.00 from Allied auto parts.
Guess I will buy the fuel pump and if it is just the sending unit I will take the pump back and buy the sending unit.

Gonna be a long Saturday.

Will update with what I find.

Just the other day someone else posted this. It used to be a rare occurrence but I suppose as the vehicles are aging we are going to see this more often.

You brainstorming a solution for this? Im sure you could get a group buy going. Ill be interested since i have yet to install your RRP.

Go to the track and atuo cross section. "title broken top hat" similar issues you had.

Here's your solution, it's happened to like 5 people on here in the past week or two. See imgur link in this post for how I 'permanently' fixed it.

Yes sir, I am on it. It will actually go well with the RRP because I am going to have it not use the plastic C-Clip... so it will make the "hard part" of the RRP install much much easier. You can drop the bottom half in all the way, make the hose connections, then just put the billet top on afterwards.

It was an old idea from way back then, I think possibly discussed in one of the RRP pump threads, but was deemed (at least by me) not worth the added expense/cost to consumer when the product was already a bit expensive.

But, if it turns out that there is an independent need for the product, then I better just make it. It will also pair up well for those who want to use the Z1 starvation kit.. My tank flange will give them a clean way to provide additional wiring for the new pump, rather than having to splice into the already burdened factory pump wire.

Please do! It was me that started a thread a couple days ago about mine being broken in half. Nissan says they can't sell just the housing & that it comes with fuel pump as well. 500$. Please let me know how long you think it would take to make the product.

I second this. Think it could be up and done by October?

Since this particular item hardly needs any R&D (only need to fit like stock but with superior strength and rigidity), and all the required dimensions are already in my CAD banks, and my CNC is already sitting 100% setup and cutting fuel pump tops for Z's already... I am hoping this is up and done by Monday :)

I just need to finish running the parts through that it is already cutting, and then make some changes to the program. Ill have something as early as tomorrow, as late as a few days, I think.

Awesome man. I guess I'll come back to this thread on Monday or Tuesday and check for a update. Any idea of what the price on this product would be ?

Same thing happened to my '09, however it had 65k miles
