Forged Performance: Our First 370Z Custom ECU Flash

UpRev has finalized all the ROM's for the 370Z so on Saturday we dyno tuned our first 370Z. Prior to the tune, we installed Stillen Hi Flow cats, and a Stillen cold air intake.

One of the key features of the UpRev software, as the ability to conduct real time tuning, and allows for very precise adjustments to be made quickly in real-time. I ended with a net 15whp gain once the dyno tune was completed.

As a reminder, our Dyno Dynamics dyno typically reads about 10% lower than a dynojet. For instance a bone stock 370Z registers about 250-255whp. Let me know if you have any question.

I was hoping for more. But I am not too fimilar with ECU tunes; is 15whp after bolt-ons pretty normal. And these other companies that advertise 30% increase including the bolt-on numbers with tune vs. the base dyno to pad their numbers?

Thanks

cotizi 10-26-2009 10:57 AM

thats more than I expected actually. Im interested to see if there is any change in power delivery and if the rev limter has been moved up. Data seems to end at 7500 RPM. Looks like power is gained all throughout the rev range as well.

I think this was showing after mods, then after mods + ecu-mod.

15whp isn't a bad gain after that...

A true NO BS gain of 15whp from ECU tuning alone is very respectable. We always choose the highest pre and highest post tune runs. We could pad the numbers we choosing our lowest pre tune, and highest post tune numbers, but we've never done that. Aside from the absolute power gain, you also end up with a engine that is running at it's peak from a safety and power standpoint.

I have seen some cars with bolt on mods, running 14:1 AFR's at WOT without tuning which is definatley not safe. Every car is a little bit different, so the level of gains will depend on the current state of the base tune. For instance, if a 370Z came in with an overly rich tune, or overly lean, the gains could be 20whp+ once we are doing properly calibrating the ECU.

As a general rule, we usually see about 10-15whp from normally aspirated ECU tuning.

:iagree:...Nice work!

Mike 10-26-2009 11:26 AM

and you didn't mention this to me when I was just there??????

jpit 10-26-2009 12:22 PM

Sharif,

When an owner comes in and wants to get a dyno tune I assume he buys an Osiris Flash service ($300) and then dyno time. How many runs did it take to get the 15 hp?
Thanks

Because you didn't make an appointment...LOL....just kidding!!! :) :happydance:

FuszNissan 10-26-2009 02:22 PM

Thanks for the insight Sharif.

JoeD 10-26-2009 02:29 PM

Very nice. Similar gains to this are right within expectations of a proper dyno-tune.

shabarivas 10-26-2009 02:40 PM

Good question - also would like to know

semtex 10-26-2009 02:48 PM

All set for Sharif to tune my car on Wednesday.

ssqpolo 10-26-2009 03:51 PM

nice! can't wait to get mine done now. not to make this another cobb vs uprev war, but which one do u prefer?

Ricochet48 10-26-2009 08:39 PM

15hp on a reflashed ECU is solid. That's about what I have on my Hondata reflash. What's the torque increase at? The curve is looking great already.

The real question is the price. I paid ~$500 for my reflash, to unlock an ECU for dynamic tuning you are looking at $1000+.

Good work! I will definitely get intakes and probably the hi-flow cats too

Maybe, with his setup plus a tune it will give everyone a solid idea of the limits of this car (NA that is) hopefully.

Semtex's 370Z is definately a freak of nature. It's already well over 300whp without tuning, so interesting to see how she's doing now. It's been several months since the car was on our dyno.

semtex 10-27-2009 07:19 AM

Freak of nature? I've been called worse. Oh wait, you mean my car. Never mind. ;)

RCZ 10-27-2009 07:37 AM

Solid gains, I'm going to see if the guys from HP Logic are up for doing an NA tune on my car too. Im interested to see the results.

Well over, indeed. 330whp! I look at his mods and compare to, say, RCZ, the only real difference I see is the pulley mod...and he's making another 20whp...o wait...different dyno.....nvm. Both cars have sick numbers.

That gets me so excited for the next year in my Nismo! Audio/tint for now, but come January...performance upgrades!

LOL, I don't even have my Z yet and I'm already planning an intake mod. :driving:

OK< back on THREAD.

I was on topic, since Forged may be the ones doing some of my installs! :P

Just as an fyi, my last pull on Sharif's Dyno Dynamics dyno yield 317.2whp, and that was before the pulley. After I installed the pulley, I only did a dyno on DynoJet (because it's much closer and I didn't feel like spending the money for two dynos). With the pulley, I'd estimate right around 320whp on Sharif's dyno.

HKYStormFront 10-27-2009 08:44 AM

sub'd for semtex results!! i went to uprev in austin the day after zcon finished with russell from Z1 motorsports. those guys really know their stuff, i was very impressed. they even let me do a 2* timing bump on my truck for free and it didn't necessarily add power but the engine runs a lot smoother and doesn't knock constantly at idle

Zsteve 10-27-2009 05:21 PM

So 284 with all the mods to include the stillen intake and HFC and then another 15rwhp from just the tune correct?

I'm anxious to see if a real tune will wake up those headers.

My results are in, guys. Posted here -> http://www.the370z.com/tuning/10654-...semtexs-z.html
