Default Damn p0011, p0300,p0524

Cruising on highway this evening and check engine light starts flashing but goes away. I run errands and go to autozone to get codes read. I also check oil and looked good. On the way home I hear pinging and check engine light stays on and then shortly after goes into limp mode.

Have to wait till Monday to take to dealer.

Do you have any recent mods?

I'd check the oil level, fluids and maybe reset the ecu.

A Q&D look on the Intertubes says low oil pressure to VVEL is a likely cause. It may be a plugged passage or a dirty filter in the VVEL system. But that's just what I read - YMMV.

Thanks. Did the reset before i went to work and was fine but just temporary because it eventually goes into limp mode again and rattle sound. Oil level is good and no new mods.
I will take it in this week. I have extended warrany so should get fixed but probably trade in after that.

Assuming nothing mechanical, it could be either bad cam position or VVEL sensor. The random misfire is resulting from the other issue(s).

any oil leaks at the front of the engine? in particular the two cast alloy covers on the very front of the engine or the solenoids attached to them?

it's a VVT fault, not a VVEL fault although VVEL does use VVT to do its job. There are separate codes for VVEL faults. how often do you change your oil? what viscosity oil is in there at the moment?
you might have an internal oil leak

Could be internal, they replaced valve cover gasket at least twice and replaced the valve cover back in the spring. But I swear I always still seemed to smell like oil if I had the vents open.

Run 5w30, oil changed about 3500 mi ago.

Mods....M370 mani, Berk HFC, OEM Nismo exhaust. But those have been on for awhile haven't messed with anything under hood since summer.

the rocker cover gaskets are not relevant to the fault codes. Sounds like you might have a pcv/ccv leak somewhere.

if the valve timing is off, it could register as a random misfire because the off valve timing can cause a compression leak and that combustion cycle will be off.

if you want to have a play, pull out one of the VVT solenoids and check for sludge and debris. You can access the right side one easily but the left side you cant remove without a lot of other work.

like Southark mentioned, you could have blocked VVT filters. There is a thimble gauze filter on each bank, behind the timing cover gasket.

Had the same problem, took me a while to identify the fault, it was one of the intake valve timing solenoids

Genuine Nissan Engine Camshaft Valve Timing Control Solenoid (see list for fit) | eBay

Took both out and checked by giving 12V DC and the faulty one wouldn't plunge, so gave it a good clean it now works perfect. Order new parts just in case it happens again.

Hope you got yours sorted already.

It's possibly your oil gallery gaskets and can be very very serious. Have shop/dealer check for that
