Price for Installing

Was wondering how much people paid shops to have there Gen 3 installed.
I know a lot of members say to just DIY, but I don't want to risk anything haha

Thanks!

I had a performance shop quote $380. Sounds high. I am planning to diy myself. Switching out my k&n short rams

Zero dark 06-29-2015 08:41 PM

Its a 2-3 hour job for the shops most likely and at a standard rate of like 100-120 an hour. It will be near 300 if not over

MyZ4U2C 06-29-2015 10:36 PM

Had my go to small shop mechanic put mine in for $100 - $50 an hour friend rate.

Joker_J 06-29-2015 10:44 PM

I see... I guess what the shop is charging me isn't too bad. Before I was quoted at $220, but he said he would call back and let me know what the previous person was charged and just match it up lol

Elmo370z 06-30-2015 02:06 PM

It literally takes a hour and change if that. Get a dremel and Jack stand and tools, save yourself a couple hundred bucks

Agreed. It's a no brainer. And a lot of shops will forget to wrap the AC lines and you'll end up with problems down the line. Man up, grab some tools and do it yourself. That way you know it's done right.

Can you explain this wrapping of the AC lines? never heard of that :icon14:

If you don't protect the AC lines, the Stillen will rub a hole in them and let out all your refrigerant.

If you haven't heard of it, you need to.

And I bet 99% of shops miss this step

Joker_J 06-30-2015 08:12 PM

I'm getting it done at Dynosty.
They said it would take about 3 hours -_-;;;
I told them the majority of the members on the forum took less than 2 hours.
They said that they have make sure the holes are drilled perfectly and that the A/C lines are taken care of so it doesn't rub against the part.
So they know what there doing but its just a little pricey.

Zbrah 06-30-2015 08:28 PM

Pay the price if you're too lazy to put in work.

Elmo370z 06-30-2015 10:12 PM

They're putting a cloud of smoke up your bass. They quote you that so they can make money or that shop doesn't have experience doing that install

Dynosty is pretty well known lol

3.7 ZPA 07-01-2015 05:41 PM

DIY. Once you finish, you will slap yourself for ever considering having a shop do it. I've installed intakes on three of my cars in the past, and it's well documented that I'm a dumbass when it comes to mechanical ability.

JARblue 07-01-2015 05:47 PM

Dynosty is probably charging that because they've got bigger fish to fry. But if you're not willing to DIY, at least you know it will be done right.

Exactly! lol yea...I rarely have time to install stuff by myself lol
Always on the go to somewhere or busy with stuff... :shakes head:

I've seen a lot of shops screw up G3 installs. So I wouldn't be confident in them

6mt370 07-02-2015 04:43 AM

OP can you change your own oil?

Sadly no...but if I had the tools and everything I would probably try haha

6mt370 07-02-2015 01:40 PM

Oh wow...

Zbrah 07-02-2015 01:42 PM

If only you were closer, I wouldn't mind installing it for you.

This is how you become knowledgeable. Find someone to help. Use the money you would have spent on labor on a set of tools.

You'd be amazed. Go to your regional subforum. Offer $25, a case of beer and a pizza for someone with tools to help you.

Sounds like paying me for what I would be doing on any given weekend anyway:tup:

Joker_J 07-05-2015 08:51 PM

Update: Got it installed and the mechanic answered all questions. I know others install it themselves, but I just feel at ease if a professional installs and tests the part to make sure everything is running fine. Overall, I'm satisfied with the outcome! I felt the difference right away! Next up....the cbe and hfc :D

I got it done at Dynosty, dunno if you've heard of them but they knew all about it lol Even before I asked, they said that it would take time to make sure the A/C lines were all set up properly to where the intakes didn't rub against it. Price was $330.

I wonder if they wrapped his A/C lines. Did you happen to see how much he paid for the install?

LENTZ 07-06-2015 09:36 AM

Can somebody post a link to wrapping the AC lines? I purchased my Z with the Stillen G3 already installed and my AC just completely lost all cooling this week. It seems this is the most reasonable culprit of the problem.

That's exactly your problem. Next time, cut a piece of hose and zip-tie it around the ac lines where the intake tube is. It's very easy, it just gets forgotten 50% of the time.

If you are mechanically inclined do the repair yourself. The replacement hose is $35-40 but the dealer will charge you $4-500 for the repair.

Joker_J 07-06-2015 08:27 PM

I believe they did wrap the A/C lines. They told me from the beginning that they would have to do all that which would take some time lol
