damn, how did you guys find those info?

Snakes709 07-17-2010 11:03 AM

just do a search either on the forums or on google. Dont bother looking in your owners manual, thing doesnt tell you ****. Pretty much the same as my truck, basically says "if you need to do this, go to the dealership"

JayYoon 07-18-2010 12:13 AM

sounds impossible for a nub like me to do this...

Yes, owner's manual will not have all the important information you need for DIY stuff, like torque values, however, the SERVICE MANUAL is what you need. Here's how to download your very own copy. There are a number of files as it is organized in different sections:

I don't have much experience with automotive DIYs myself, but I have the inclination to learn. That's what forums like this one is for...lots of good information. I don't have all the tools either, but when I tackle various projects, I'll buy the tools I need, so now I have a growing collection. Believe me, this is not a hard DIY. The toughest part is learning to take the bumper off for the first time, then it's a piece of cake. Just read through the Stillen instructions and supplement with this DIY. AK has a DIY for the G3 as well, and there's another DIY for how to remove the front bumper, that you can cross-reference as well. Nothing beats the feeling of having done a mod yourself, and knowing that it was done right!

Is there any issues with installing this on a Nismo? I heard at a meet there is extra bracing on the nismo. Just wanted to confirm.

"Does NOT fit NISMO 370Z" direct quote from stillen site.

Does anyone know if you can make it fit a nismo?

EDIT: Found a link to answer my question from Stillen.

I broke a bolt this weekend during install (specific bolt is in the pic below, it's the bolt that holds the passenger side rubber/plastic piece onto the top of the engine).

1) I am dumb, what are these parts known as so I can describe it to a dealer. It's the rubber/plastic piece that clamps onto the intake tube on the passenger side... I don't know what function it serves.

2) Anyone have a recommendation for finding bolt replacements? Dealer? Hardware store/Home Depot?

Doh, that sucks. Any tips so I can make sure I don't do the same thing?

Don't leave your bolts sitting in the sun so that they are 150+ degrees during re-install :) Honestly it may have been a defective bolt if that's possible... sure it was hot but I definitely didn't over-tighten... i'm a small guy and not very strong haha.

flashburn 08-23-2010 10:39 AM

Haha okay, I'll be sure not to do that. Pretty crazy though.

That plastic piece can actually slip off (away from engine) so you don't have to unscrew the bolt. Did you round the head on that bolt, or snap the head off?

Snapped the head right off. Luckily it didn't break flush with the engine so I was able to back out the bottom of the screw with pliers. I think I found the specific bolt that I need but it's $5+shipping so i'm thinking Home Depot may be a better option.
