DIY: Install Rearview Camera for Stock Nav (2010)

All credits go to BDL for discovering this. As you may know, he sells a kit at his website for this purpose. To be honest, I was not comfortable paying $130 :icon14: for just few wires and pins, so I seek a DIY alternative.

The hardest part is locating these pins. Literarily, it took me 2 weeks to find them. I still have a few left. Pay shipping and I'll send you.

NH-025 (from Japan) - This guy sells the connector and the pins together incase you want to replicate the kit. (Minimum quantity is required)

Find a female RCA wire, cut the wire and crimp the pins on.

Here is the back view of the connector of the DISPLAY UNIT. Just push the pins in accordingly with the numbers.

Pin 8 - camera signal
Pin 7 - shield

ATTENTION:
Just to be an a**, Nissan seals up ONLY pin 8 7 of the plug, but not other empty pins. I had to use a small watch screwdriver to poke a hole.

http://imageshack.us/a/img694/7310/8ggv.jpg

After that, the pins went in like butter.

Put everything back in order. Connect the camera and Viola. Don't forgot to turn on the Camera feature via hidden menu.

Incase anybody wonders, I bought the ebay camera that attached to the license plate light. Low-light performance was not that bad and definitely useable. The ultimate downside is the built-in grid line. I might have to buy a different one without the grid line, keep that in mind if you are going to buy one. :ugh2:

Superv 10-12-2013 01:33 PM

I just fitted mine today using your post - thanks  but like yours it has the grid lines. Did you manage to get another one without? Also did you setup the configuration for the OEM grid lines in the menu?

sselemit 10-14-2013 02:53 AM

I couldn't find one so I learned to live with it lol. I enable the OEM grid line through system settings.

I want to say thanks to sselemit for sorting this out.
My 2010 roadster now has a cam.
Just a couple things I wanted to share.

The connectors are available at Radio Shack.
This is the correct cam but takes 5 weeks to arrive from China.
I spliced the camera power into the backup lights in the trunk.
This only works on 2010 models.

xpenziv 10-14-2014 11:56 PM

Thanks! The pictures were a big help for getting the connector side connected. I still have a blue screen though. I think my power is not correct. I used the 5 week from China camera and spliced the red power lead to the orange reverse line in the rear and the black power to the common ground on the rear wall. How did you power yours?

bkngo 01-24-2015 12:34 AM

wonder if this will work on a 2009

RN SHARK 01-24-2015 02:48 AM

I wonder this too

DEpointfive0 01-24-2015 03:29 AM

Hidden menu???

bkngo 01-25-2015 10:19 PM

I've tried that hidden menu trick and it doesn't seem to work on the 2009. I press the start button to acc on, ensure my audio was off, pushed and hold the volume knob, rotate it clockwise (tried the counter-clockwise as well) a few clicks (3-10 clicks), and I have nothing. However, I believe it will only work on the 2010+ models since the 2009 Navi is different from my sources.

bkngo 02-01-2015 10:56 PM

I bought a backup camera and I will try to see if this works... if not a very lucky 2010+ oem navi member will own one, lol...

Btw, I saw this earlier tonight on an Infinity website off of a 2009 g37 but have not tried it yet...

1. Start the engine.
2. Turn the audio system OFF.
3. While pressing the “SETTING” button, turn the volume control
dial clockwise or counterclockwise for 40 clicks or more. (When
the self-diagnosis mode is starts, a short beep will sound.)
• Shifting from current screen to previous screen is performed
by pressing the “BACK” button.

bkngo 02-02-2015 09:11 PM

didn't work :(

bkngo 02-05-2015 09:54 PM

I'm going to try this on the 2009 with the pins 8 and 7 this weekend. wish me luck 09s!

This only works on 2010. This was a transition year.

bkngo 02-08-2015 01:31 PM

Alright 09s... good news and bad news...

good news: figured out the secret menu
push start to acc on
enter on nav screen
volume is off
push and hold settings
rotate the volume button clockwise until you get to system diagnostic screen

options
self diagnosis:
front display
switches
control unit
gps antenaa
sat antenna
control unit
Ipod

confirmation/adjustments:
display diagnosis
speaker test
climate control
navigation:
steering angle adjustment
speed calibration
XM SAT subscription status
error history
vehicle CAN diagnosis
AV COMM diagnosis
handfree phone
blutooth
SAT
Delete unit connection log
initialize settings

Bad news: no backup cam option... so Navtool or bypass harness are our options for now

mrthomr 03-18-2015 12:11 PM

These look like female connectors. Can anyone confirm?

bkngo 03-18-2015 06:29 PM

they are...

Carlitoboy 04-03-2015 01:10 AM

FYI I found the same camera, on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Moonet-Backup-.../dp/B00J21TNTW

Gonna give it a go...

Carlitoboy 04-09-2015 11:02 PM

Does anyone have any spare pins?

[DIY] Install Rearview Camera for Stock Nav (2010)

Never mind, I did what sparrow did with the female jumper wires. Smart man!

Anyway, I finished the install today. Works great! The Moonet camera fits like a glove, but video quality looks exactly like Sparrow's, and it's pretty mediocre imo. Overall I'm happy with it.

Thanks sselemit!!!

kenhdcgov 04-17-2015 04:05 PM

I found a guy in Southern Maryland who did mine. Works like a charm every time I put in reverse.

DanohKeo 04-23-2015 05:39 PM

Any write ups for the 09's ?

CanadianSteel 03-13-2016 04:50 AM

I'm gonna do this in a couple weeks when the camera arrives but do you guys have pics of how the color lines from the camera look like along with the ones from the navi? Both at the same time? I'm assuming the lines on the navi can't be disabled?

l2iceman 11-13-2016 05:14 PM

Hey everyone, I'll be picking up a 2010 with oem navi this week! I've been reading about this and planned on purchasing the harness from carkitcompany to go with the eBay camera.

Anyone have updated pictures? The OP pics aren't loading.

And anyone have an eBay link to a camera without the guidelines built in? I'd love to use just the oem guidelines since it has predictive lines that go with the steering wheel inputs.

The370z. 01-12-2017 03:00 PM

Where are the pictures for this, anyone?

Same I don't see the pics as well. :(

l2iceman 05-22-2017 10:41 PM

Hey everyone, so I decided to finally try this today. And instructions on first page are accurate. Here are the photos I've taken showing the back of the connector, it counts from right to left, top to bottom. Plug 7 and 8 are the correct ones to connect to. Make sure the pins are pushed in all the way, I didn't and the video flickered, but now it's perfect. I just need a camera that doesn't have built in lines.

In the connector picture (sorry it's blurry), the two blank ones on the top roe between the red and black wires are pins 8 and 7.

I'm using a license plate camera I ordered off of eBay, it replaced the left license plate light.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9fcd5aebec.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...834101298e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...79f5872f53.jpg

Still Lost

I got these jumpers but the pins don't seem to be long enough to go through the plug and make a good connection with the Nav unit. Are you using the headers in some way?

I used one of those thin screwdrivers used for like eye glass repair, to shove the pins all the way through.

Thanks. I gave up after a few failed attempts and even put the whole dash back together. Today, I decided to try one more time. Worked like a charm. The only other question is ... does anyone know how to turn on the active guidelines within the factory Nav unit?

ins_man 10-31-2017 04:51 PM

Bump... Does anyone know how to activate the backup camera guidelines on the OEM navigation unit?

Here you go, once you access this menu, there are options to turn on oem guidelines.

With Radio off
Press and hold the “Settings” button and turn the volume control counter clockwise.
After about 40 clicks a menu will appear
Select “confirmation/adjustment”*
Next move down to “Camera” and select*
Then select “Camera Syst Type” and change from “No Camera” to “With Rear view Camera”
Come all the way out of the menus using the back button and the system will reboot
Now when you put the car in reverse, if a blue screen appears with*“Please check your surroundings”*message your car is compatible

I did all of that. I now have a back up camera but no guide lines.

Did you go through the entire hidden menu? There should be an option to turn on or off guidelines.

Yes. I found a setting that appears to turn on the lines and I also found some setting values to key in, but it still doesn't have lines. I'll keep playing with it.

Where is the white plug in the first pic located?

It's from behind the oem radio I believe.

Ouch so I have to dismantle the interior and run cables all the way to the boot?
