DIY: GTR Clear Lenses Install

Here's my first DIY contribution. It's simple to do, replacing the factory smoked lenses with the OEM GTR clear ones. Why would someone replace them? Because:

a) they're from a GTR (automatic :nutswinger:)
b) it matches with with trunk light

Difficulty level - 1
Time needed - Less than 5 minutes
Tools needed - thinnest flat head screwdriver you have, GTR clear lenses

First things first, work at your own risk! I'm not responsible if you scratch, chip, or break anything while you do this.

Here's what you'll need:

OEM Nissan GTR lenses (with part numbers provided)
26432-JF00A (Left Side)
26431-JF00A (Right Side)

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...psde0d8b04.jpg

I used a Snap-On flat head screw driver. Whatever the thinnest, skinniest one you have will do. Do NOT use any super thick flat head as it will not fit.

Removed from packaging:

Stock VS GTR:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...ps205ae57a.jpg

First, you use your screw driver, and slide it in any corner of the lights. There should already be some small indentation for you to slide it in and pop it out easier. Work slowly to pop out one corner at a time, and eventually the cover will come off. Once that's off, just simply pop the GTR one in and you're done!

Some more pics:

Please note: I've already had LEDs installed so that's why the light is white. Unfortunately I could not find my stock bulbs to put in and take pictures with. Also, the car is in a garage so I do not have day time pics at this time.

Factory covers:

GTR vs Factory:

All done!

First Impressions:
It does seem brighter a bit since the lens isn't frosted anymore, but it's not noticeable by much. HP gains are no where to be found even though I installed a GTR part :( but at least it does look better IMO.

How much did you get the lenses for.
Nice idea.

Grindkiezer 01-27-2013 01:46 PM

How much did they cost?
Edit: I guess it's already been asked

Total cost can range anywhere from ~$35-40 shipped, depending on where you get them from.

I've provided the part numbers for your convenience, so you can contact any Nissan dealership and give them the part numbers for pricing.

My price of ~$35 includes both sides + shipping, the link above is only for one side, that's why there's the price difference.

Mitco39 01-27-2013 07:33 PM

I just typed the part number into google. Do the same for the other side and you have the price for both of them. There are multiple websites that have them listed, although the pricing appears to be almost identical.

Vote to have this link added to the cheap mod thread. Very cool idea!

just wanted to add where to pull the stock lens. you can turn on the map light, insert the pick tool and gently pull down.

from there, just stick your hand above the lens and pull down the entire lens.
no scratches.

my bulbs are stock. im trying to get away from the flourecent toilet lamp look. why make it illuminate white. defeats the purpose.

enkei2k 05-08-2013 04:44 PM

because it can get blindingly bright when it's super dark? :icon17:

Honestly. I don't like yellowish color. That's why i replaced all my bulbs inside my house to 6.5k bulbs that I bought at lowes. Maybe it depends on what u really want.:)

P.s I only used yellow bulb outside my house to keep away from bugs.:)

hummm... i will give a LED (white) a try and see. i found a bunch of them onsale at amazon. im not sure how low of a profile i needed, so i got the shortest one i could find.

kenchan 05-14-2013 09:07 AM

for those of you that are using 194 or 168 LED's to replace the factory incandescent bulbs in the maplight housing, have you had any issues with not enough resistance causing some kind of circuit related problem(s), such as burnt delay timing relay and such?

thanks.

kenchan 05-14-2013 09:37 PM

guess not... :ugh:

Sorry for the late response, but I have not noticed any delays or anything.

I'm using these as my LEDs

194 LED Bulb - 15 SMD LED Wedge Base Tower | LED Landscape Lighting | Super Bright LEDs

I can try to take a video for you Mr. Kenchan if you want to see how they are.

I've heard that certain LEDs will stay dimly lit even when 'off', but I've never noticed such a thing.

Thanks! No need for vid. I was just wondering since I hear issues with not enough resistance when using wedges on markers and such. :D yah, I hope I don't have that hanging light issue... I don't want any additional drain while car is off. :)

My led's are supposed to be coming in tomorrow. I hope they work

:woot:

What brand did you end up going with?

I just remembered that the only problem I did have a slight issue of them not seating properly and they would flicker because of it, but after a while, I got them to work OK and no more problems. The trunk light one however :ugh2: I might have got a faulty one because that one has a mind of its own.

huh, thanks for the info. yah, i think im just going to leave the trunk one alone.

i bought the Luxtar SMDWB 1210/5050. will put them in tonight and see how they work. :D

was cheap too, like 8 bulbs for $5.50 shipped. :ugh: 4SMD led each.

kenchan 05-15-2013 06:41 PM

Looks awesome! You're right about the not being super bright. My 15 SMD is overkill :rofl2:

For 4 SMD that's pretty good. Appreciate the pics :tiphat:
