modshack- given the little hole behind the brake rotor cover, shouldn't you be able to punch out the studs without removing the caliper?

Calipers kinda in the way....Besides you have to take that off to remove the rotor..(corrected from original response)

wheee! 06-11-2010 01:25 PM

If you do not remove the brake rotor, you will not be able to verify a good seat of the new studs. Plus you may damage the rotor while tightening individual studs in... Therefore, removing the caliper is necessary in order to remove the rotor too.

No, no loctite.

^^ wat he said.

even if you use the V2 type with built-in studs dont use excess amounts of loctite blue cause you may have problems removing it down the road. just a small dab on the factory stud and letting it cure over night is all that's needed.

OK, I'm confused LOL

He said no loctite....

You say... use a small dab, and let cure overnight..??

ChrisSlicks 09-16-2010 02:09 PM

V1 stud replacement - no loctite.

V2 bolt on style - small dab is okay.

TROOPER 09-16-2010 03:22 PM

Oh sweet, that clears it up

Thanks guys :tiphat:

Not what Steve told me.

My Z lives on!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boost_lee 09-23-2010 11:42 PM

Sure does Steve. Thanks for the DIY Modshack
The install went well...minus a damn chipped caliper :(

I will add though that after the install the car's wheel gap is more noticeable since the tire is not hidden in the shadow of the wheel well. Oh well, more excuse to keep modding :)

m4a1mustang 09-24-2010 07:57 AM

Where did you chip the caliper? I'm guessing it was when you were taking the pads out or putting them back in?

Boost_lee 09-25-2010 02:08 PM

no, my damn wire slipped loose, caliper fell, and chipped the outside near the top of the first piston (about an inch from the nissan logo). Dab of semi flat black will hide it for now until I get them powdercoated

Spacers are great, no new vibrations and the ride is still good.

Ah, that sucks. I eventually found that instead of hanging the caliper it was better just to set it on two gallon paint cans stacked ontop of one another. :)

msb3079 10-02-2010 09:58 AM

It stinks I can't use the V2 spacers on the Z.. I was able to put them on my G37, no problem. Ichiba's site says they are compatible... they should really change that... not everyone uses a forum.

ZForce 10-02-2010 11:35 AM

Just buy H&R spacers and call it a day....no isssues what so ever, top quality! Never mounted, brand new.

I have 1 set of 15mm and 2 sets of 20 mm 4 sale...pm me if interested...my zip is 95678 for calculating shipping charges at 4lbs per bx.

msb3079 10-03-2010 12:15 PM

Yeah, well I already have a set of 15mm, which is why I'm pissed. It's easy for someone selling something to say "buy it and call it a day".

ZForce 10-03-2010 12:22 PM

np.. g/l on your issue.

Why 15's?....They fill in the wheel wells very nicely bringing the tires almost flush to the fenders. Won't cause a problem if lowered in the future. 10 was too small, 20 too big, 15 just right IMO..

did u go 15 all around? ive seen ppl go 20 all around and i was thinking the same. what problems will i have if i go 20

hey how do u know how much lb of torque ur using? i dont have an impact gun i usually do everything manual and muscle everything

I believe it's 85lbs, but I would double check

It's called a torque wrench, and is powered by your body. When you reach the selected amount of torque the wrench will click to let you know (there are also digital versions). If you are doing your own work you should have one. I believe the manual dictates 85 lb/ft.

Heyu said u had ichiba spacers? Do u have version 1 or 2? Version 2 doesn't require removing studs is that better

"Better" is a long conversation. People feel more safe with the V1. V2 is much easier to do... a simple bolt on. All 4 wheels can be done in less than an hour.

However... with the stock Z wheels... V2 will not work in the front. Definitely not for 15mm spacers. 20mm spacers need a slight mod of the wheel or studs (which I would not recommend) and 25mm is too big for the front. Basically, from my understanding.. V1 is needed for the front. I currently have 15mm V2 on the rear and nothing on the front. 15mm V1 is ordered and I'll probably install them this coming weekend.

At least V1 on the front is easy. V1 on the rear is a bit of a pain, so V2 is a better chose there unless you enjoy disassembling the e-brake assembly. I went for V1 all around because I take the spacers on and off depending on what wheels I'm using that day.

What kind of lugs do you use when you pull the spacers off and have the extra stud length?

The other wheels have a thick face and there isn't as much protruding as you might think. actually before extending them I felt the studs were too short for those wheels. But regardless for those wheels I use the Muteki open lugs.

Just finished up the front. 15mm. perfect install. thanks for the writeup
