You will need to run your main power to an ignition source. One that is only on when the car is on. Then use a relay to interrupt the power when the lights are on. I have mine wired so that the angel eye and demon eye shut off when the headlights are turned on. |
What all do I have to remove to put the headlight in the oven? There is that part on the bottom that says do not remove will shock. Do I remove that? :s

Thanks for the great DIY post!
I'm just wondering if anyone's ever tried to paint or seen someone paint the Projector Shroud and/or Turn Signal Shroud RED on a PEARL WHITE Z? I know and have seen a few photos on this thread from those who painted them WHITE on a PEARL WHITE Z. But I was thinking maybe RED would stand out as an accent :O If not can someone possibly photoshop the shrouds RED in one of those photos? I'm really curious and am inept at photoshop haha :o |
Ahhh I just learned how to photoshop it red myself and did it with a photo posted on this thread. Thanks to "Soulrunner" for the photo of his Z~
What do you guys think of the red accent instead of matching w/ the white?? http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg842...jpg&res=medium |

Just did mine the other day. IMO one of the highest-impact, lowest cost mods going...if you DIY. I didn't go with any LED's, mostly due to long-term concerns, but I did highlight the rings in red to contrast with the black lenses, gun metal housings, and carbon fiber accents (including the landing strip. I think it came out even better than I anticipated.
Thanks for the write up on how to open these lights. I wouldn't have done it without you. Now I just have to figure out how to give some rep! |
Okay, still new here. Figured out the REP thing. Thanks for the info, Caravan. I wouldn't have attempted this without your write up.

Yep. I was very happy with the 3M Di-Noc CF wrap. It's 3d and replects light really well. Easy to work with and sticks great.

I'm about to tackle my headlights this weekend, have them out at the moment.
Holy crap are the 370Z headlights huge lol. Barely fitting in my oven when I test fit last night. Anyways I'll post pics on my process and finished job |
YelloGixxer, I don't know if red would've been what I went with, but charcoal is tough, so I understand why. The CF strip looks good, a nice little touch!
What's everyone been doing oven wise, as in temperature and time? |
I bought the car with a 3M clearbra on the headlight as well as bumpers. Would it be safe to bake the headlight housing with the 3M clearbar on it? I'm kind of worried it would melt...
|
I'm guessing that it'd melt. Try finding the temperature range on their website.
|
I did 250 degrees for 10 minutes. I was afraid to go longer, but probably could have. After 10 mins I did have to still use a heat gun (hair drier) to separate the bottom.
A couple more minutes in the oven would have probably worked, but baking headlights is stressful!! |
LD1-x series Accent Module Specifications
These would be good right?? Just wire the + and - together and run it to the parking light and your done correct? |

/\ Thanks! Good luck! I'm sure you'll show us how they come out.

Anyone know where to buy the halos and what size?
|
You can get them from the retrofit source.
Morimoto CCFL Angel Eyes - Accessories from The Retrofit Source Inc I'm not sure about the size, but I think the lenses are 3'', which is the same as the 350z. I believe the 350 also used 95mm. It's also here: Angel Eye Halo CCFL 95mm WHITE rings |
I had planned on doing this mod, but have since decided to just black out my headlights and go after a stealth look.
Anyway, I wired up a couple LED strands but won't be using them. If anyone is interested they are listed in the for sale section, just do a search for my username and they should come up. |
please help i want to run the Iron-Man and Landing Strip how to connect the wire? connect all in parking light?? pleae help thank so much

I recently tackled this and it took a few days, but saved a ton. I worked on the headlights all week after work and total cost..........Less that $20
After I took apart the headlights, I applied the Krylon Fusion Satin and installed the LEDs. It takes 18 total, but I purchased a couple of extra. The LEDs I purchased cost .48 a piece and the color is around 5000k matching my LED parking lights. The LED's are 5mm with built-in resistors which made things a lot easier. They are super bright and crisp & clean. Here's a link to where I purchased them from: 5mm 12v Pre-Wired LED White Ultra Bright 15,000 mcd I connected the LEDS to an ignition hot (+) in the fuse box by the drivers side kick panel so they are illuminated whenever the ignition is on. Looks fantastic day & night. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...z/P9250797.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...z/P9250798.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...z/P9300811.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...z/P9300812.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...z/P9300815.jpg |
Landing lights look great and glad you took care of the egg yokes. Very clean looking !

What brand, part # and source for chrome cover amber turn signals? I have been using LED turn signals and they are not bright enough for me.

Chrome Bulbs Autolumination.com It's the W21Y T20mm Diameter - Plastic Wedge Base. I believe it's the 7443 for the front and 7440 for the rear. This is what I use for my front parking light: 5K WHITE 13 LED LIGHT BULBS 158 168 194 2825 | 1 PAIR |
Thanks for the info. I actually have the v-leds as the running parking lights. Will give the chrome bulbs a try.

Why dont you test the LEDs by reconnecting the battery as opposed to taping all of those little batteries together?
|
why do you need the resistors? and why cant i see them in your harness? im no electrician!
|
What MCD rating do you guys recommend for these LEDs, I notice the OP has 4000 MCD and there have been other ratings used.
|
Hey guys, finally found some time to tear my headlights apart... Got the first one apart and i'm painting it now. What adhesive should i use to put it back together? Will i be fine with just reheating the old stuff? Or should i pick something different up. I want to use something that will allow me to get back into the lights if need be. Thanks
