Hell, once I get back from Iraq, I might roll over to Dallas, and have you do this for me;-)

I dont have the balls to try this.

anybody doing this mod, I have a backup RH headlight that I purchased as "backup" in case I screwed anything up. I opened it up to make sure I know how to do it before opening my own, and then put it back together.

if anybody on here wants to do this mod, Let me know, I have that backup headlight with everything in it, its good to use as a example in case you forget where something goes, and then sell it to the next person for the same price. It was nice to have because I did resort back to it a couple times.

300obo + shipping (I paid 350).

schrute 11-15-2009 08:17 PM

That looks great! What paint did you use? Did you use the heat gun method?

I really need to do this mod...

Cjanik 11-15-2009 08:58 PM

I used the oven method. I didnt have a heat gun in handy.

I personally think it is easier to take off the lense with a oven because it heats everything all at once instead of one spot at a time.

however, you want to take off as much glue as you can to help make it possible to put the lense back together, and a heat gun would have been a huge help in this part. the glue, when cold, is very hard and gummy.

I opted not to do LED's though.

I got the paint from automotivetouchup.com . I told them color K51, and they sent me a can of that stuff. (spray can). I also ordered the clear coat so the sun and heat wouldn't ruin the paint.

It took me about 8 hours to do the entire thing. (from pulling car into garage, to getting the bumper back on.)

lights look good Cj !!

schrute 11-15-2009 09:18 PM

Thanks for the info. I have clear bra on my headlights and am not sure which method will be safer to avoid damaging the film.

mywhite370z 11-24-2009 07:25 AM

Nice tail lights, what did you do to them? Did you powder coat your rimz?

schrute 11-25-2009 12:01 AM

^Thanks. Tinted tails and yes powdercoated rims. Lots of info in my journal, click on "My Z" below.

Now I need to work up the courage to bake my headlights open and paint them black too...

I did not blackout though. I am thinking about spacing out the rims.

vehl 12-04-2009 12:47 AM

where i come from, every tom **** & harry has bought a set of LEDs for his/her corolla, civic and hilux. its great work! but if i did that here, that would be so uncool.

getmecoffee 01-21-2010 09:19 PM

I wonder if....you installed high power IR LED's would your headlights turn into Laser Jammers? hmmmm

neveucd 03-07-2010 09:58 PM

Can someone in Houston do this for me? Lol I don't have the guts, and will probably break all kinds of things.

s4play 03-10-2010 01:04 AM

heyyy...

Looks nice, we've been doing LED headlight mods for s2000 / NSX owners for quite some time now.

Any issues with LED contact failure rates? We've found over time the individual LED's tend to have problems....

Wow....great LED work, man. I'd like to see something like that for the Z.

solerunner 04-03-2010 11:17 PM

Just finished this mod on my Pearl White Z and it turned out awesome! I want to thank Caravanshaka for his great DIY and his willingness to answer all my questions. I used a heat gun instead of the oven and used Krylon Fusion "Dover White" spray paint to paint the projector shroud and turn signal shroud. The "Dover White" matched the Pearl White perfectly (in my opinion) and only cost $5! Attached are some pictures:

s4play 04-07-2010 10:48 AM

how long are the wires from one led to the next and is the resistors really tiny i cant see them on ur pix

mdbrich 06-03-2010 06:00 PM

Here is mine. Did not follow this thread but oh well. Same results. I made everything black except the HID shroud. Orange reflectors and everything.

Measure the distance between the front 2 dimples on your headlights and make the wiring between them at least a half inch longer than that. I thought I mentioned how long mine were, but I could be wrong. You wont see the resistors in pictures, they are pretty small and under shrink wrap.

mdbrich 06-03-2010 10:03 PM

Also if anyone has white and is contemplating black or white shrouds I hope this helps. I would have liked to see it when I was doing mine.

Im not a fan of the LEDS in the headlight housing myself. The angle just does not look quite right. Maybe along the bottom, but i would rather have nothing.

^nice....What I also would like to see is the landing strip painted white to match the lines of the fender. I think that would look sweet.

cmefly440 06-06-2010 09:31 PM

will 22 gauge work ok?

Caravanshaka 06-06-2010 10:34 PM

22 should be just fine

mywhite370z1 06-29-2010 08:37 AM

great write up, just wondering why you didnt put the resistors on the positive side, thats where the current is coming in. I did my headlights acouble days after you finished the DIY,they came out great, also did a few more in my area for 370 dollers,

halogodx 10-11-2010 08:44 AM

anyone that lives near the daytona beach area wanna help me out with this ? i'm not too confident to do this myself lol

resistors work fine on either side. They are going to limit the current flowing through the wire either way.

glad they turned out well!
