One huge question though, does it notify you in any way when you are nearing a reported police area? If so, do I have to be in navigate mode or can I just drive around with waze open and still be notified?

By notify if you mean a pop up message then no, what you can do is if you are on a highway or street you know are usually are full of cops, or you aren't sure if there are any, you can click menu, reports and click Police and see the police who are nearby or ones that are reported. Remember not all of them are reported. And also if you navigate to a certain spot, pick diff routes and each route will have a police icon on top of it to show you that route has cops. Also when you are driving that route you can actually see the cops in your gps. Pretty cool, I also run a radar detector app which helps too.

Also don't forget about the camera reports, speed cams are a major reason people get pulled over. :tiphat:

Dunno if you have to be in navigate mode, but it does verbalize "police reported ahead" when you are approaching a cop while "navigating".

I also know that when you stop, (like at a light or something) it starts giving you a list of all nearby reports (and showing them on map) then when you start moving again, it "re centers' on your car and shows what is ahead.

Interesting dynamic.

I wonder if there is a way for it to notify me of police/speed trap/cameras ahead of me when not in navigate mode. I never drive around in navigate since I make primarily short trips to places I know.

This morning it notified me of a car on the shoulder ahead and I wasnt navigating so I assume it would do the same for cops but I could be wrong

Verified police ARE reported while not"navigating"

SurfDog 09-28-2012 04:19 PM

WAZE announced. "Police reported ahead" with a 2000 ft countdown to location while in map mode (not navigating to a fix). The cop was ahead on the city street I was traveling.

The cool thing is it marks whatever spot you first hit report. Them you can take your time filling out the details as you zip along. The report marks the spot way back there where you started navigating report menus. IOW drive safe!!!

I started using it a couple of weeks ago after seeing it on this thread. I love this app! It could use a button to report azzhole drivers though. (People who ride too close, lane hop, cut you off then brake check you, ricers driving too fast with the spare tire on, texting or talking on the phone...), but it works great. I wish all apps worked this well. I've been telling my friends and family about it. The more people that use it, the better it works. Too cool.

This app eats up my battery!
