I wish I had another daily driver so I could open up my lights and take my time playing with them. The way it is now I have two days to open them up do everything perfect and put it all back together.

I hear ya man!

It's winter here, so I've got the car put away anyhow. Lucky I have a daily driver to get through Chicago winters!!! Time to play is another thing though. I'm also finishing a basement, taking to old dogs back and forth to the vet constantly, helping my wife start a new business, and continue my training for the upcoming triathlon season. I have the time the car can be down, but don't really have the time to play with the lights. Too much other stuff going on right now! :):icon14::ughdance:

Yeah that's a lot on your plate. I'm in the middle of a garage remodel so the place is a wreck. Plus I'm in Florida and it's currently 81* here hahaha, I drive the Z every day.

Just ordered 8 red flat mount led's and 8 blue ones, as well as some new drl led's and white turn signal led's for my headlight mod. That will be a lot less drilling and wiring. I also got some "cool white" flat mount led's for some foot well lighting when I open the doors, and maybe something actually on the doors, not sure yet. We have that red reflector thing on the doors, I've been wondering if I could put a light in that thing.

Meulen 12-22-2013 08:00 PM

I just figured out 3 LEDs I the strip lights stuck to the reflective shroud is just about as bright as 6! So I'm sticking them in with 3m tape. I put a little epoxy on the edges to keep it on good and will be drilling 1 small hole in the shroud to run the wires out of.

So.. I'm planning on cracking open my headlights tomorrow and paint them. I've read this whole thread and others, some people say no need to prep others say scuff then paint with krylon fusion, scuff then use automotive primer then use X type of paint. In short I'm confused!! I want to do this once and do it right.. So what are the steps I should use to get a durable and lasting end result?? Help me guys!! :tiphat:

Huck 12-27-2013 11:24 AM

You might not need to scuff it, but I would just to be safe. Then use Krylon Fusion and you're good to go

If I were painting them myself, I would hit them with some 1000 grit sand paper at least. Then use a primer, and then whatever paint you're going to use. Like you said, do it once!

Just in case anyone is curious, I got the flat mount less that VDC suggested and they look pretty good. They just came in yesterday so obviously I haven't installed them yet, but I hooked them up to a 9v battery just to see how they looked, and they were plenty bright.

I'm going to use these white ones for interior footwell lighting to be hooked up with the map lights so that when they come on automatically (unlock the car, open the door) the footwells will light up as well.

This is one red led, I'll have two red and two blue leds in each projector (going with the dual projector look)

And finally I hooked up the halos to a 9v as well just for fun, they're super bright.

Couple of shots how it's going to look with the red lens retainer ring

That red retainer ring is a nice touch.

Can we get another few shots of the red retainer ring? Thinking about doing this to my car.

Sorry man! I just took them back apart today. You'll have to wait a few weeks. I'm exchanging my XBs for the new ones and have some fabricating to do on the diffusers and then they all go back together. When I do get them back together though you can count on getting some good pics here. :)

Meulen 01-07-2014 10:32 PM

I got news from Rhetrofitsource that their batch of new XBs that weren't yellowish when off were bad and they won't have them. So I ordered a smaller 60mm halo for the flasher and am going to try something else so they don't look yellow or just decide to live with it.

I also changed up the demon eyes. I thought the heat might get to the strip LEDs in the reflective shroud so I moved them in the projector housing just behind the lens

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/08/3enenaqe.jpg

I cut the strip down to 3 LEDS and it turned out REALLY nice. No cutting or drilling. Just the 3m tape and a little epoxy to secure it. I wired it up and out of a vent in the housing.

I ended up putting some shrink wrap on the wires where they pull through the housing for extra protection later.

They are really turning out great! Can't wait to finish up with the halo debacle!
