REQUEST: Rear Speaker Cover

Are those rear speakers functional in the base? If seems that if I adjust the fade for rear only, nothing seems to come out. If they don't work, can working

If seems that if I adjust the fade for rear only, nothing seems to come out. If they don't work, can working after-market speakers be dropped in?
