I am going to plan ahead and get a 3' -1/2" drive extension and a 14mm impact socket as mentioned in the other demon bolt thread before I tackle mine.

darionlear 12-06-2011 11:29 AM

I stripped mine... gonna extract it.... I don't wanna break the cats... at 1300+ a pop, I can resell those bitches and cover my test pipes and aam axel back! Lmao...

But, man... hard core! How did you get past driver side bolt?

wowza that was extream, i had a run in with the demon bolt but i just rounded off the head of it, finally got it off with a Grip-Tite socket and a giant breaker bar, the head actually snapped off and the cat fell right to the ground. make sure when you reinstall you use anti-seize

darionlear 12-06-2011 02:11 PM

Anti-seize for what?

for when you reinstall, if you ever have to take them off again they will come off much easier

darionlear 12-06-2011 04:12 PM

Run into any leak issues between test pipes and headers? I have a friend who says he has one. If gasket is n correct, shouldn't. Right?

cheshirecat 12-06-2011 04:22 PM

IMO, it's best to use some high-temp sealant whenever you do exhaust work. Helps to cut down on exhaust leaks.

I had a leak between the test pipe and header and needed to tighten it more about a week after install. Even though you have a gasket in there, it doesn't necessarily mean the bolts are torqued down to the spec required to keep leaks from happening. The sealant will help fill in those tiny gaps if you have any.

Demon bolts slayed and both cats in 100%.... now to sell those bitches!

Neo187H 12-10-2011 08:17 AM

1/2" breaker bar with a pipe on it and extensions straight forward out the front of the engine bay are how I got mine, def. a pain to get and adds in the worry of smacking the front bumper but it did the trick. Both of mine snapped.

darionlear 12-10-2011 11:49 AM

Had to heat, and after heating they snapped. LoL

Same thing happened to my install last night. I stripped the bolt head and now it won't catch with the 14mm socket. I need to get those Grip-Tite sockets. Where did you buy your set from? and how much?

darionlear 12-10-2011 01:03 PM

Just go to orileys... a set is like

darionlear 12-10-2011 01:04 PM

Sorry. A set is like 30.... 14mm bolt extractor is in there... that with a four foot extension out the front and a 1/2 breaker bar after about ten min of heating with a torch... SNAP!!!!! Big difference now with test pipes... aam axel back go on Tuesday.... >=)

darionlear 12-10-2011 01:07 PM

orileys 24 bucks i think. use some penetrating oil and let it sit for a while.

darionlear 12-11-2011 11:34 PM

I suggest heating if you can

RobMan 12-12-2011 10:24 AM

I did my HFC's on Saturday. What a serious pain! Snapped the bolt on the passenger side but the driver side came out whole. I read the DIY but still wasn't expecting that much trouble. Glad to have said I have slayed the Demon!

darionlear 12-12-2011 07:34 PM

haha.... welcome to the club brother!

same thing happened to me, divers side was easy, then BAM i got a big F u from the pass side!

bigaudiofanat 12-14-2011 10:45 PM

You poor guys. You need to learn about what I use and trust me...it works very well.

Penetrating-Lubricating Oils

Ages 12-16-2011 09:08 PM

BigAudiofan i ordered some of this stuff 2 days ago. Hope it works as good as you say! i will let you know as soon as i do my Install:tup:

MattP725 12-16-2011 09:44 PM

Use 1/2" extensions and a breaker and a lot of muscle and you'll do fine. Take your time with the penetrating lubricant... if you rush it, you are going to round the bolt, I guarantee it. I got mine off intact but I was close to giving up.

Alchemy 12-16-2011 10:37 PM

I had zero problems removing these so called "demon bolts". I feel y'alls plight though.

Skeeterbop 12-16-2011 10:42 PM

haha, that was a PITA. We spent forever the first day on those bolts. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like with the short tails on there

Same here. But my car was brand new.

xipander 12-17-2011 12:33 PM

mine popped right off. '11 with ~2000miles on it, used full half inch drive breaker bar and 4 extensions and deep well socket, first good tug the head snapped off on both. ~2mins tops for both of them.

I had about 22k when I did mine I believe. My buddy layed under the car and held the socket on the bolts after I snaked our frankentool thru the engine bay. A couple were semi tight but nothing our breaker bar couldnt handle with ease.

When you guys snap the heads off the bolts, how do you then bolt the new headers on? I'm assuming you still have to extract the sheared bolt somehow.
I have the FI long tube headers waiting to be installed.

The cat is threaded, but the header is just a hole. So if you break the top of the bolt off, the bolt will still be attached to the cat but will slip through the header.
