Can someone recommend any automatic shift knobs that won't break the bank (below $50)? Just a simplistic yet functional knob that looks somewhat cool at the same time.
Or does anybody know if these two will work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Ca...item4611db7c43 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/RS-1-Auto-pu...item43be845746 |
Try these other Razos.
Razo part #s RA89 RA90 RA93 RA94 Check this thread for pics http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...ft-knob-5.html Looks like those are going around $30 and under. No button on the knob - You push the whole knob down to shift. Might try one myself. |

The only ones I saw were these which I don't think ever got produced.
http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...nobs-boot.html I did come across one random one but it was either custom or a knock off from China. |
Update on my soluton to hold the AT shift bezel down
(see here http://www.the370z.com/2116331-post182.html ) A dealer had to get in there and tore it apart (ARGHHHHH!!!). So this time I tried an alternate method: I gently laid down strips of double sided 3M tape in a way similar to how the leather strips were placed. So far so good, and possibly best solution yet  I'll post with updates if I go back to leather or try something else :D |

Infiniti shift knob and shift boot just put some double contact tape on the edges of the trim and snap it in. It will be tight and won't pop off. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Hey Guys,
I did the same as luisderoux in terms of shifter knob and boot combo. I kept the ring piece silver though. Didn't use any tape or velcro to hold the boot down and everything seems to be working fine. I might add some later if I feel it needs it. Might even add some double sided tape like luisderoux mentioned to the silver ring to make it even more snug but it seems pretty snug already. we'll see how it goes! Anyway, it looks 10000x better and this is how it should have came from factory! Knob was bought on ebay (infinity M45 knob) and the boot as well. http://i.imgur.com/0GMC9vql.jpeg http://i.imgur.com/oQB0uEGl.jpeg http://i.imgur.com/SZiZi6Ml.jpeg Thanks to everyone in this thread. Cheers!:happydance: |

The M45 knob and boot combo looks really excellent -- nicely done, sir
BTW, I HIGHLY recommend the swapping of the up/down position for shifting (see further http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...irections.html ), it feels 100x more natural, and I find myself using the shifter more than the paddles since having done it. |
Jimmy - link to the ebayer selling the boots.
autotrimming on eBay Legit seller - I can vouch for him. good product, fast shipping. |
Is it me or is autotrimming isn't selling the 370z shift boot anymore? I can't find in his store anywhere... anyone has better luck?

Picked up the perforated M45 knob, matches the steering wheel nicely and sits a little lower. The auto shifter ring keeps popping up, so I got the manual ring as well. Hopefully I'll get around to installing everything in the next week or two, but I attached the knob in the meantime.
In case anyone is interested, the M45 knob finisher is available as a stand alone part. 34929-EG000 34126-EG000 (Zip tie can probably substitute) http://www.ocinfinitiparts.com/nissa...0/J96900JK.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/pl4ti...-shifter-1.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/pl4ti...-shifter-2.jpg EDIT: After a bunch of dremel work & test fitting, I installed the OEM manual boot console. Also took the gamble of picking up a Murano hazard button to match the black of the aux power cap from my 7AT Aux Power Outlet Relocate DIY. Unfortunately it wasn't quite the same size as the OEM silver one and the button insert in the console had to be sanded a bit wider to accommodate. Even though it snaps into place, the button is oriented 90° differently..the hazard symbol is more driver centric I suppose :icon17: http://www.the370z.com/members/pl4ti...m6-console.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/pl4ti...m6-console.jpg |
A Dremel is definitely a must for the alternate method, updated my post above with results. Overall, fairly happy with how it turned out.

Just scrolled through all pages of this thread - great DIY guys! I'll be doing this real soon, hopefully in conjunction with a sweet red C/F surround from CF Element...!

The last version of mine where I emplyed double sided 3M tape to really keep the boot and bezel clamped down has been the most successful and least likely to be dislodged  |

How much double sided tape are you using? I put 4 pieces, about 1/2-3/4" long each around the trim, but the silver ring won't stay in the socket. The leather keeps the silver ring from being able to go down far enough to secure it. With the leather boot installed, the ring can only go in about 1/8". One touch of the shifter and the ring pops up.
Edit: Took another look and the little velvet strip had all rolled to the inside and were not doing anything. I adjusted them and the ring isn't popping out, but doesn't feel very secure. When you put the double sided tape, did you just replace the velvet strips with the tape? I originally put the tape on the inside of the leather lip and it didn't do anything. Liking the look so far. Waiting on the m45 knob and finisher to arrive. |

Hmm, I just bought the finisher and little stay thing, and I actually prefer the look of my shifter without it -- go figure.
Anyone want to buy it off of me? Essentially unused (other than a test fit) -- shoot me a PM if you want it. |
Double sided tape works decent, but I wanted a better fit. It seemed to me that the issue was the bezel fits so close to the gear indicator that there isn't enough room for the leather boot. If you look at the bezel, you will see a small trim ring around the opening about 1/8" thick. I sanded the lip off so there is room for the leather boot. Now the bezel fits firmly back in it's original position. Very minimal modification to make it work. Not as slick looking as the manual bezel, but I didn't have to hack up my car.

Decided to paint the bezel black. The flash makes the black look a different shade, but in person it isn't as drastic.

Some pics without the flash

^^^ Nice!
BTW, if you do decide to ever swap the up/down shifting like I did, another nice thing about adding the boot is that the "+" and "-" symbols don't need to be ignored or somehow swapped -- they are covered up completely by the boot. |
A little off topic, but how do I install a boot for the e-brake? Do I have to remove the center console or does that trim around the e-brake pop off?
