370Z 40th Anniversary: Zex NoS Installtion

Finally completed the install of Zex NoS kit on my 40th Anniversay 370Z. All went well. The Zex 07' - Current Nissan 350Z worked flawlessly (Part#82238).

Pics to come shortly.

Jordo! 02-27-2011 06:04 PM

Are you running colder plugs?

Dreezy562 02-27-2011 06:47 PM

crazzy

Big J 02-27-2011 07:04 PM

It's crazy the amount of negativity people give on most import car forums about nitrous just bc they know nothing about it. Have you had it dyno'd or ran at the track yet? I wouldnt worry about colder plugs if your just running a 75 shot. Even a 100 I would not sweat it that much. NGK TR6's are what I usually run in nitrous cars. But that's usually on 125 shot and up for me. If you want some serious nitrous information, you may be a nitrous genious for all i know, check out the nitrous section on ls1tech.com.

Also, most track's require a blow down tube if the bottle is in the cab area of the car.

Big J 02-27-2011 07:06 PM

Also, what did you hook up the tpms switch on the zex box up to, or are you using another activation switch?

Interesed in doing this setup. What shot are you running and have you dynoed?

tyler20c 03-02-2011 04:16 PM

Did you tap your stock fuel line?

spdn370z 03-02-2011 07:46 PM

Ok guys... sorry for the delay busy end of month at work.

@ Jordo - I have not put in colder plugs yet. But I plan to before moving up to next shot.

@ Big J - I Hooked into the TPS Sensor - Only activates at full throttle.

@Messiah - 75 Shot and no dyno yet.

@Tyler - yes I tapped into the stock fuel line.

Here is a video for all that I found and found very helpful during the install. Everything went as the video described:
Power Performance TV : Zex Nitrous 2007 VQ35HR 350z Install and Dyno

Hope that helps everyone and keep the questions coming.

Big J 03-02-2011 07:53 PM

Cool. Zex kits are by far the easiest to install if anbody is interested....

CarbonSignal 03-02-2011 11:51 PM

as per my humble research on NOS, anything below 100shots on our engines doesnt need any plugs ( correct me if am wrong experts ;) )

you must be scraing those Vettes and AMG's eh !!!..

keep it safe bro.

tyler20c 03-03-2011 10:44 AM

I bought the dynotune kit for the HR 350Z and it came with a fuel line that didn't fit. I just ordered the fuel block adaptor from them so i'm hoping that will make everything fit okay. Do you plan on running yours at the drag strip?

Let me know what you find out on that subject. I will be doing 100 shot in the months to come on my Z and I am curious about that. Also Does anybody know exactly what our cars can handle? I was told 100 shot is the most I should do b/c I was leaning towards a 125 after doing all my upgrades.

spdn370z 03-03-2011 01:51 PM

I will going to Dallas Raceway this Sunday to run it. I will post the times after. Gonna run it with and without NoS for a comparison.

Awesome Im very interested in the results.

Big J 03-03-2011 03:33 PM

Your biggest problem is going to be traction if you have crappy tires.

Agreed

red6spd 03-03-2011 08:30 PM

Cool, cant wait to see what she does at the track... What did it cost ya if you dont mind?

spdn370z 03-03-2011 09:23 PM

@red6spd - Sure price is no secret. Bought the kit from Atlanticspeed.com for $689.95. Fills are running be $35 for the 10lb fill @ Lone Star Performance in Dallas. They also have a Nos pump to fill so no waiting and nice guys even though primarily a domestic speed shop.

ZEX 82238 NISSAN 350Z 2007-2008 COMPLETE WET NITROUS SYSTEM KIT - Atlantic Speed Warehouse

They are quick to ship and has been a good experience thus far. I am getting the purge kit and bottle warmer delivered from them tomorrow.

Finding these to things to be very important as the bottle at fill is reading about 800psi. It is recommend to have psi range from 900-1000 and need the warmer to accomplish that. The purge kit ensure Nos is ready to go at anytime and the street credit is always fun too! Total spend here is about $300

All said about $1K into the system thus far.

Big J 03-03-2011 10:26 PM

if anybody is looking for a great priced kit with good quality check out dynotunenitrous.com. I have used several of their kits with no problems.

spdn370z 03-04-2011 01:28 AM

That kit wit the Fuel adaptor runs $558 and is activated via a switch mounted under the pedal.

ZEX™ electronics use the vehicle’s throttleby- wire system to activate the nitrous at wide-open throttle, and Active Fuel Control™ Technology adjusts fuel enrichment with variations in bottle pressure, so you’re never too rich or too lean.

I am not saying that your kit wont work but (in my humble opinion)... if I am running Nos I want it to be a SAFE as possible. I was willing to pay the extra $130 for more failsafes to protect the motor.

Hope it goes well for ya and wish you all the best.

Love to see time. I have always been scaried to run Nitrous in a gas burner. I had a bottle on my old dodge diesel

spdn370z 03-06-2011 07:50 PM

Track times....

Went to the track today as promised. NoS essentially shaved 1 sec off 1/4 time.

Weather: 68F and clear
Tires: Lets just say time to replace em ;)

I am car #23. NoS run on left slip and N/A on right slip.

NoS Run:
R/T: .731 : Been a while since at track :)
1/4 Time : 12.920
1/4 MPH: 109.72

N/A Run:
R/T: .788
1/4 Time : 13.881
1/4 MPH: 102.59

Thoughts: Struggled getting grip at the start and confident that I could get 12.7 with a new set of rubber.

One_Quick_Z 03-06-2011 08:16 PM

Cool glad you like your set up!

I went with the same on my old 350Z, Once you get some more track time and new tires get the 100 shot jets in and a tune and you will be breaking into the 11's

DAN

Gunzero 03-06-2011 10:33 PM

This is awesome :)

spdn370z 03-06-2011 11:30 PM

Excited to hear that... I want to see the 11's!

I am a little confused. The 40th now does it come stock with 332 or 350 at the fly? You had a 2.0 60 footer which is decent on the the NOS slip. Though the N/A I don't understand b/c stock you should be running lower in the 13s but your trap speed wasn't there. With a couple of mods already you should already be 13 flat at least. What tires do you plan to go with? Def. get a tune to see if your running lean or something b/c both slips should have been better. Where are you located? What is your elevation above sea level. Now I am not saying that I am the best driver in the world I am just simply pointing out what the car is capable of. I hope you do better next time buddy.

tyler20c 03-07-2011 04:19 PM

What are your other mods? also, the nitrous didn't quite cut a second off your time most likely more like a half second or less. Your 60 foot was 2.4 on the n/a run and 2.0 on the nitrous run, which isn't effected by the nitrous. Great results on the nitrous run though! I cant wait to see what mine will do when my nitrous finally is finished getting installed.

Nismo221 03-07-2011 04:51 PM

well i see in his pic he has ingen long tube intake.

Are you talking to me? You are correct about the switch, thats why you pick up a TPMS when you order the kit. Zex is only kit that comes with the built in switch, but the problem with the zex kits is that they come with some of the smallest solenoids on the market so a 125 shot is pushing the solenoids limits, but imo I think its ok.

Sorry for going a little off topic here. The kit looks good and looks like you shaved some time off your runs. Some drag radials and practice will have you in the mid-low 12's I would hope.

V8Killer 03-08-2011 07:50 AM

After my mods. and 100 shot I plan to be breaking into the mid to high 11s. I was expecting more on that 75 shot kit he has but considering he has minimal mods and no tune I guess it was okay. Practice makes Perfect.

JC671 03-10-2011 02:05 AM

Great job on the time man. I think I'm gonna order this kit next. I'm excited to see what I could do with same mods but with the ark type 2 exhaust. Still subscribed...

spdn370z 03-11-2011 08:17 PM

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do need to work on my times... practice makes perfect. Will say I was trying to go for a clean install that hid the components.

I installed the heater and purge kit. Will post pics soon.

red6spd 03-12-2011 09:46 AM

Nice, would really like to see what he can pull of on a fully bolted and tuned Z

JC671 04-01-2011 12:49 AM

Ordering my kit today....

Was the install hard? I want to attempt to do this with my uncle who is a great mechanic but scared to do it since its my first install with Nitrous...

Big J 04-16-2011 12:16 AM

Nitrous is not a difficult thing, don't let all the negative hype(usually from pople who have never used it) scare you away.

JC671 04-17-2011 02:57 AM

Ordered my entire kit on the 6th of April:happydance: Just waiting for it to come in with my purge kit,

I'll post results....

Big J 04-17-2011 11:12 AM

From where? Why is it taking so long to come in?
