How to rice out your Z to the max vol.1 <Carbon Fiber film your B-pillars>

Hey guys,

I'm not 100% sure if anyone else has uploaded same DIY yet.

However, I decided to start off my "How to rice out your Z to the max" series

with installing carbon fiber film to Z's B-pillars.

Installing this part will add approximately 25RWHP to your Z.

1. Required tools are [ scissors, 3M Dinoc Carbon Fiber film, marker, hair dryer ]

2.This installation is very easy. It only took me about 20 minutes (first attempt).

I'll be wrapping few of my forum friends' Zs tonight and expect to install them

in about 5 minutes.

3. You start off by cutting 3M film to approximate size by folding them(or you can measure)

4. You then mark them to better fit to your Z.

Hardest part is cutting one side of B-pillar as indicated by red circle on the pic.
http://dcimg1.dcinside.com/viewimage...a4728bd13fa1d6

Marked area does not have any space to tuck in your excess film.

Therefore, you'll have to cut it to perfection if you want it to be perfectly done.

5. Prefit your film to your B-pillar
#############Do not stick it on to your car, YET.##############

6. Now you make a copy of the film for the other side.

This process can be done by putting cut film onto another film and marking

them.

7. Now put them on your car. First fitting the marked area and lastly towards the other side.

8. Heat the edges and wrap so that it won't start peeling later on.

9. Now your car has extra 35 horsepowers.

be careful wrapping your key, it may get stuck in your fobgina (see fobgina thread for more info and lolz)

Jesse_Hunter 06-28-2010 08:51 PM

OMG, What is the HP gain on the fob???

JB-370z 06-28-2010 10:31 PM

I might have to do this since it does not look like I can afford a turbo whistler.

:roflpuke2: turbo whistler is quite expensive, BUT it'll give you a lot more HP gain than this...

Not really. But at least since yours is wrapped you avoid future fob support payments.

check with your local tuner shop.. they might have the part, but they might not sell the part only..

p.s. you're from Baton Rouge? I was an exchange student going to Family Christian Academy (jimmy swaggert) on blue bonnet back in 2004 LOL

awesome, dude! post some pics after you put them on!

CrownR426 07-01-2010 07:37 AM

I want to see door handles with this wrap!
You must do it nowwwww!

TongMan 07-01-2010 07:51 AM

Anyone wanna try wrapping their whole car in this vinyl?

kenchan 07-01-2010 11:42 AM

no door handles or the entire car, but i think i too am going to do the B-Pillars on mine. one of my buddies showed me his car bits he did with this same 3M stuff and i was amazed how CLEAN it looked. :p

and i was able to get the nice glossy finish with some carnauba wax so im taking off my Evo-R b-pillar (it looks nice but the threads are not as black as i wanted them to be) and replacing with this 3M stuff as soon as it comes in. :D

m4a1mustang 07-01-2010 11:43 AM

Has anyone tried spraying the film with a clear coat?

Nismo_370z 07-01-2010 03:03 PM

This may be a dumb question, but is there any possible way to remove the b-pilars to have a more precise wraping?

Nice! I should be getting my small roll real soon too. Can't wait to start my project.

Be careful removing the B-Pillar covers as I've read some folks breaking the tabs. Not that you can't fix it with some double stick tape.

I don't plan on removing mine to do the B-Pillars.

cant wait for Max Rice vol.2!!

For the fangs, I had to do it in three pieces - the two fangs and the middle portion. I was in a rush to get to the movies, so I applied the right side incorrectly. I may have to redo that side if I get too many negative feedback. The b-pillars was cake to do. I haven't done the rear valence yet, but I imagine that it would take some patience to get it done correctly.

Not bad! Especially for first trial I think it looks pretty damn good! :D

Man, my CF roll tracking# shows still no movement. :(

NewYorkJon34 07-02-2010 03:04 PM

I'd be too worried of this stuff fading in the sun to put it on my car's exterior, looks good tho
