DIY Fairlady Z Emblem

As I see more 370z on the road, I don't feel as unique anymore, so decided to change the emblem to "Fairlady Z" to be alittle different from the crowd. (Yes you can call me naive). It's a simple DIY, but for those who really wants to do it "right", I "suggest" the following:

1. Bake the 370z emblem under the sun. (most important, makes taking the old emblem off much easier).

2. Use dental floss to slowly take off the old emblem. (search on youtube if you want to see exactly how it's done).

Result after floss:

3. The remaining residue can be removed just by rubbing it with your fingers. Some might say it will damage your paint if your car is dirty, so that's why I washed mind before I started.

4. Used rubbing alcohol to remove the tape marks.

5. Used a clay bar to clean the surface again.

6. Used car paint cleaner and then wax the area where your emblem will be.

(Some might say it's better to clean the surface with rubbing alcohol so that the emblem will stick, but I did it differently, so it's up to you).

Finally all clean and ready for the new emblem:

7. Place the new emblem as in the picture and use regular tape to hold the position:

8. Once satified with the position, start peeling off the red tape on the back.

9. Once done, pressure the emblem to make sure the back tape is in contact with the body.

10. Lift the emblem stencil.

11. All Done. Enjoy.

Nice DIY - do you really want to wax the car before the new emblem? I always thought that items didn't stick well to fresh wax. Anybody?

That was also my concern, but so far it holds pretty firm. Will update if it's not holding.

WOW that foam around it is so great. Do they all come that way... I mean where did you buy it from. I have seen them for sale on a couple of web-sites and was not sure if they were all the same. Cause if not I want to get the one you got so that it comes with that niffty foam. Thanks.

I got mine from ebay.

Something like this:

JDM NISSAN FAIRLADY Z REAR TRUNK EMBLEM NISSAN 370Z NEW: eBay Motors (item 190400924034 end time Jun-28-10 09:34:20 PDT)

Make sure you buy one that's for 370z and not 350z. The stencil is different and the emblem design is also different.
