DIY Fairlady Z Emblem
As I see more 370z on the road, I don't feel as unique anymore, so decided to change the emblem to "Fairlady Z" to be alittle different from the crowd. (Yes you can call me naive). It's a simple DIY, but for those who really wants to do it "right", I "suggest" the following:
1. Bake the 370z emblem under the sun. (most important, makes taking the old emblem off much easier). 2. Use dental floss to slowly take off the old emblem. (search on youtube if you want to see exactly how it's done). Result after floss: http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...7-l1020523.jpg 3. The remaining residue can be removed just by rubbing it with your fingers. Some might say it will damage your paint if your car is dirty, so that's why I washed mind before I started. 4. Used rubbing alcohol to remove the tape marks. 5. Used a clay bar to clean the surface again. 6. Used car paint cleaner and then wax the area where your emblem will be. http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...1-l1020548.jpg (Some might say it's better to clean the surface with rubbing alcohol so that the emblem will stick, but I did it differently, so it's up to you). Finally all clean and ready for the new emblem: http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...1-l1020528.jpg 7. Place the new emblem as in the picture and use regular tape to hold the position: http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...3-l1020533.jpg 8. Once satified with the position, start peeling off the red tape on the back. http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...4-l1020534.jpg 9. Once done, pressure the emblem to make sure the back tape is in contact with the body. 10. Lift the emblem stencil. http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...6-l1020540.jpg 11. All Done. Enjoy. http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...9-l1020544.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/yamah...8-l1020543.jpg |

Thx for posting this DIY! Just received mine yesterday and will be installing this weekend!
|
Seems really simple but a quick how to can always help someone who is unsure.
|
Nice..clean DIY!
|
Thanks all for the comments.

Nice DIY - do you really want to wax the car before the new emblem? I always thought that items didn't stick well to fresh wax. Anybody?
|
That was also my concern, but so far it holds pretty firm. Will update if it's not holding.
|
looks clean
|
nice....when i was placing it, thought for a second to place it on the right side and did that looks good as well total JDM :)
|
WOW that foam around it is so great. Do they all come that way... I mean where did you buy it from. I have seen them for sale on a couple of web-sites and was not sure if they were all the same. Cause if not I want to get the one you got so that it comes with that niffty foam. Thanks.

I got mine from ebay.
Something like this: JDM NISSAN FAIRLADY Z REAR TRUNK EMBLEM NISSAN 370Z NEW: eBay Motors (item 190400924034 end time Jun-28-10 09:34:20 PDT) |
Make sure you buy one that's for 370z and not 350z. The stencil is different and the emblem design is also different.

Great DIY, + 1 rep!
I'm not going to install at fairlady emblem, but I am going to de-badge. Thanks to you I can now do it myself! :D |
Finally got around to doing this today. Pretty much the same steps as when i took my wing off my Cobalt SS, just 10000x easier.

Great DIY +rep
I'm looking forward to putting mine on whenever it's delivered. Good thing for me is my car doesn't have the 370z emblem so i get to skip a few steps :) |
The Fairlady Z Emblem in the DIY is different from this one... which one is correct? I can't find the one listed in the DIY above... http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/1...07453042_o.jpg

Just wondering because the 370Z Fairlady Z floormats use the same eblem http://d3d71ba2asa5oz.cloudfront.net...9-fl-bk__1.jpg

Those are 350Z emblems. The Z should really give it away.
Z with the 3 dot-like things in the middle = 350Z |

Thanks for the DIY; it's useful to document what some might think is "simple", because for someone else it might not be.
I don't want to hijack your thread, but seeing the original emblem off got me to thinking: suppose you left it off, all polished up as you did? Might look pretty good. Here are a couple mock-ups. |

I don't know about you guys but the glue used for the 370Z emblem is a B%$*H! Maybe I was doing something wrong but I had a heck of a time getting the glue off. Just wanted to give a heads up to those that haven't done this yet, don't rub on the paint too much or you will be buffing that panel. :shakes head:

just got a 2013 370 z brand new 2 weeks ago. thinking about doing this to be unique and to get that jdm look. is there a special one for the 2013 model? or are all 370 z fairlady badges the same?
|
ok nvm. i just ordered mine from nissanparts.cc. its gonna look sick!! lol.

sign shop
Sign shops use a heat gun and heat the surface of the emblems and it help remove the adhesive in the back. Whatever adhesive that remains, they use rapid remover ,ultra Adhesive -off, and ghost-off..

Did mine this morning....
I like history and objects "with a story" so I wasn't going to pass up the chance to rebadge my new Z.
