Ok. Mine was an '05 with the DE motor, so that's not gonna work. Thanks for the clarification.

just buy a new set from one of our vendors
you'll be happy you did

Demon Z 09-15-2009 09:38 PM

In light of this new information, I think a full exhaust is a given. I got to see the underside of my car the other day and nearly sagged my knickers when I saw how tiny our piping was.

Daishi 11-21-2009 07:08 AM

you didnt have to unhook the steering knuckle on the drivers side?

Nope

Anyone use a o2 sensor socket to remove the sensor vs. a regular 22mm wrench? I don't have either but I'm thinking of picking this up. Just seeing if anyone has experience with it. It's also the same one Autozone rents out, but for the price I rather just buy it keep it in my garage. Going to need to remove this down the road anyways.

Amazon.com: OEM 27110 Oxygen Sensor Socket: Home Improvement

KEVTEX 01-02-2010 07:27 PM

The O2 sensor socket with a 3/8th square hole on the side works well on the 370Z. It costs $4 at harbor freight an $8 at the local auto parts store. You could probably get by with a crescent wrench as my sensors did not take much effort to remove.

This writeup was an enormous help, I cannot thank you enough! I had plenty of trouble with the bolts even though my car still has 100 miles on it. I shot out to Harbor Freight and grabbed a breaker bar and somemore extensions to get the bolts through the engine bay. Well, the 'breaker' bar did the trick:

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u..._0015_1032.jpg

WD40 was used, I could have saved myself some frustration if I was paying attention to which direction I was pulling (lefty loosy righty tighty) but they all came out after some choice expletives.

:roflpuke2: oh god. i guess thats one way of getting rid of them. Redline Time Attack provided us with those at the beginning of the season, like 1000 of them. We put them out at every event and I think we still have 998 of them left. Paul Walker had to re-order another 2000 I think though...

christian370z 08-26-2010 06:16 PM

This would have been awesome if you had rehosted a couple weeks ago! I went off of your written instructions and successfully completed my install, not hard if you take your time and have the right tools in my opinion.

Rooskey 08-27-2010 12:29 AM

Just did this mod tonight. I HIGHLY recommend using 1/2" drive ratchet and extensions for the two ft of extensions for the top bitch bolts. It was like day and night trying to use the 3/8's compared to the 1/2". Do not use an impact because there is to much energy wasted through the extension's. PB Blaster is the **** too (let it soak in for a while too). If you have a nismo with the H-pipe like my self you shouldn't have to unbolt the rest of the exhaust like mentioned. If I had to do this again I would recommend buying new gaskets for the Y/H-pipe as well. I really enjoy wrenching on cars and this product is not a bad DIY project if you use the right tools.

Yeah I got one of those too! I especially liked how someone scribbled out the licence plate on the front of the car with magic marker. LOL

jlaughman22 08-29-2010 05:49 PM

Thanks for writeup

Just did this today >> the cost >>1 broken universal joint and two broken extensions, couple of busted knuckles, cuts and about a gallon of lube. Broke all those tools on one stud that wouldnt move but finally broke free with a 4 foot breaker bar.

Red__Zed 09-19-2010 10:02 PM

thanks for the write up. I'm about to throw mine on whenever I've got some free time...

bplourde 10-02-2010 08:21 AM

I have a Stillen G3 intake installed--will I need to disconnect it from the throttle body the same way people have to with the stock intake?

tjlazer 10-02-2010 10:28 AM

Haha the only thing I broke was a cat! All the tools survived, even my knuckles. :) (stripped the driver side bolt so this was the only way...)

Weight

I read the thread, but maybe I missed it.

I see you weighed the stock cats in your pics. How much weight savings are we talking? 4 oz?

Berk Technology HFCs are 5 lbs. lighter each than stock so 10 lbs. weight savings total.

Your dyno pics (Last one) shows a gain of 24whp/26wtq. What else was done to acheive this (Uprev/tune/CBE/etc.)??

How much would I expect to gain from simply installing Berks on my NISMO? What about with Berks & Uprev tune? I'd like to keep the OEM NISMO exhaust.

The dyno was 100% stock vs. 100% stock w/Berk HFCs, nothing else done to the car. They might not gain as much on the Nismo since the Nismo cat-back is better than the regular stock cat-back, but you should see good gains. Essentially, the first mod you do to the exhaust system on these cars will show the biggest gains.

Wow, great gains! Thanks for the response.

So, does anyone know (real knowledge) what I could expect to gain on my NISMO from simply bolting on Berk HFCs or TPs?

What about Berk HFC or TP with UPREV tune?

Where in FL can I find a knowledgeable UPREV tuner?

Sorry for all the questions guys.....Thanks in advance!

arghh!! did anyone have trouble with the bolts connecting the cat to the H pipe? i cannot for the life of me get the outside bolts off on both the driver and passenger side. cant get a breaker bar underneath the car either.

PB blaster, then put a closed end wrench and hit the wrench with a hammer to start it.

thanks, i finally got it off after another hour wrestling with it. :tiphat:

bah...now to figure out how to get a wrench into the top 3 bolts!

this is the view from the bottom...im sort of confused on the instructions, how can you even fish a ratchet in there!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...i/IMG_0047.jpg

christian370z 11-21-2010 11:22 PM

I used this method to daisy chain two wrenches together to a) get enough torque on those bolts and b) to reach them:

http://www.2carpros.com/forum/automo...wrenches_5.jpg

You can also access that bottom bolt facing away from you by using an extension and sticking through the subframe in front of the camera. There is an opening, you just having to play around and find it since I can't remember exactly where it is.

atx370z 11-22-2010 05:00 PM

Before i put my new exhaust on i pulled off my HFC's to install the gaskets between the cats and the stock exhaust mani's... i got them off without having to go through the engine bay. 2 of the 3 bolts on each side i got off using an 2 open end wrenches like the above pic and the other 2 i got off with a impact gun, 14" of extensions, and a universal joint. **** was too easy. But, that was the second time they have been off the car. Not sure if it can be done that way with the stock cats.

no kidding...i have the passenger side cat completely removed as well as all the bolts on the driver side EXCEPT for the bottom bolt next to what i believe is also the steering column. i cannot get this one to budge! ive tried the daisy chaining wrench method to no avail, and i cant get a ratchet in there with enough room to make the ratchet work...working for 2hours/day on this sucks. i miss driving this thing :\

phew...removed the bottom bolt, but now i stripped the THREADS on the top bolt. it just turns infinitely. guess its time to find someone that can drill it out :(

Where do you put the floor jack to raise the car? You can't put the floor jack on the support-point since this is where the jack stand will go correct?
Thanks in advance

CBRich 12-11-2010 01:15 PM

Look at the very center of the subframe in the front. You see a nib there? Your jack cup should fit perfectly. Now jack from there and put the stands on the sides. If your jack won't reach way back there to get that nub then jack up one side first with the stock jack and then get that nub.

Hi CBRich,
You're a life saver man! Thank you! What about the rear of the car? Can I put the floor jack under the rear axle and lift it from there? I've done this on my old RX7 but just wanted to make sure there is nothing different on the Z

CBRich 12-11-2010 03:20 PM

Yep. Manual shows the diff as the service jack point.

cujo 12-11-2010 03:23 PM

Awesome! Thanks bro! I will post my progress as soon as my exhaust arrives
