I measured about 16.5 inches of clearance. You could get maybe another inch or two by adding in a piece of wood to the rubber lift block but that is about it. When I installed my FI CBE I had plenty of room to work under the car. I think you could drop the tranny but it would be by brute arm strength as there would be no room for a tranny jack.

Later this year when I do the clutch upgrade I'm planning on having it done by a local shop. I'm getting to old to do that kind of lifting. Back when I was in the USAF, I took the tranny out of my 1969 Volvo 142S by parking the car with two wheels on the curb. Where there is a will, there is a way. Especially when you are dead broke.

The Quickjack is still a great tool to have in the shop. There are lots and lots of things that you can use if for but major work is not going to be easy.

The specs on their website say you can get up to 20" of lift with stacked blocks. It's more of a convenient alternative to floor jack and jack stands. It's definitely not a lift that will allow for major engine and transmission works as you mention.

The transmission jack I got from HF had no problems holding the trans under the car during a CSC replacement. Even at 16.5" it would have been a tight fit but probably still doable.

Aw man, back to the drawing board. Thanks for the info.

Maybe use the QJ to lift the car on jack stands. Then drop the QJ and add some 2x12 under them (maybe 2 layers worth to give an extra 3.5"). Turn lift the car again with the QJ now sitting on a higher foundation. The 2x will not crush and will be damn stable. That's potentially 21". I'd even screw the 2x together for more stability.

Good idea, simple and cheap!

Not a bad idea at all! Will report back with what I end up doing!

Edit: Did some searching and I found this on a porsche forum.

Yesterday I used my QuickJack to lift my wife's Toyota Matrix. The A/C drain had gotten clogged up and I ran a coat hanger wire through it. Unfortunately that didn't reach correctly so I had to pull the glove box out to get to the drain. Finally got it cleared out with some compressed air. I bet a gallon of water drained out of there!

While the car was jacked up I went ahead and did an oil change. The lift still works like a champ! Each time I use it it takes less time to setup.

Next week is the Super Charger install so it will get a work out once again. I plan on keeping the car on the lift the whole time so that I don't have to bend over so far to work on it. Us old guys need all the help we can get!

I bet you still smile every time you press the button and the car starts to fly. I do when I lift my car. I always think, "Damn this is easy! Why didn't I get his years ago!"

I had to clear the drain on a Toyota that I used to drive.
Note to anyone planning on doing this. Don't lay under the drain with your mouth open when trying to clear the clog. :barf:

Here I am using the QJ to install my new supercharger! I used the lower setting so I don't have to bend over so far while working under the hood. Works great!!

Looking darn good!! I'm curious how a supercharged z feels like. I might have to try and trade keys with a local if I find a willing local.

With the 9 psi pulley and TopgunZ's air to air intercooler mod, I'm hoping for around 450 rwhp. The EcuTek dyno tune is scheduled for the 25th. It should be a blast!

While I have yet to do any WOT pulls, it is feeling like a caged beast! Half to three quarter throttle pulls are a blast. So far I have only gotten in the 4 psi range but you CAN FEEL IT! I'm having the car remote tuned so it is a slow process but I have the best guy out there doing the tune and I will follow his directions to the letter. I want this tune right.

What is so cool about this setup is that it drives very much like it did stock except for a much more sensitive throttle response. After a little practice with the new throttle feel, I can drive it so anyone riding with me would not know the potential of the car. ;)
