I agree that having a magnetic drain plug probably doesn't provide any additional protection if you are performing proper maintenance i.e. doing regular oil changes, keeping your oil levels good

I agree that having a magnetic drain plug probably doesn't provide any additional protection if you are performing proper maintenance i.e. doing regular oil changes, keeping your oil levels good and using a quality filter. That being said I have a magnetic plug (to help me sleep better at night) and I've found it serves an added purpose during oil changes that works great... it sticks to the oil pan instead of dropping into a hot tub of oil where you'd have to fish it out. Furthermore it saves you from trying to catch the plug when it falls and sticking your hand into a stream of hot oil. That part alone is worth the price of admission IMO.
