Plasti Dip wheels

Sooo i plasti dipped my wheels and for some reason i got a lot of chips and cracks in it. My rays arent in the best condition. They have a lot of curb damage. Any ideas as to how to make them better? Did i get crappy paint? I did like 4 coats.

Just get more dip. Its meant to protect the rim really. Every so often you have to redo it.

how clean was the surface? you'll want to use rubbing alcohol to rid all oils and waxes before any paint including plasti-shitt.

And make sure they're dry before spraying

true that. ive seen so many people rush to paint after washing their wheels. hell, i'd let them air dry overnight and use a tack towel just prior to painting.

i've seen a lot of varied (read: poor) results from plasti-dip which is why most people think it's a crappy product.

things to remember:
-the under surface needs to be clean. i actually think it's a good idea to clean, and polish it (no wax). the smoother the surface the easier it spreads/runs/connects/whatever this stuff does. while you can hide minor imperfections with the stuff... it's not magic. if your subsurface is for ****, your end result will be for ****.
-you shouldn't spray it on thick. just like any other paint, it will run, crack, and get weird.
-this idea of multiple coats with a complete dry time in between causes a weird texturing effect. the stuff is rubber, and it "builds" a lot faster than paint. i've found that for a smooth product it's better to spray with minimal dry time in between. the problem is an increased risk of drips, but if you get it to work, the product is a lot closer to a matte paint than all the other methods i've used/seen.

i am by no means an expert though.

the good part is: if you didn't like the result. wait for it to dry. peel it. start over. play with it until you get a result you want.

Well the surface was pretty clean i didnt do the rubbing alcohol however. Soo maybe try that next time if i continue with the plasti dip. If i get them powder coated will it still look like ****? Since all the curb rash and ****. Ill take pictures of what they look like now

Just get your wheels repaired professionally, stop rubbing against ****, and powder coat them.

or at least spot bondo it and use wheel spray paint. ive done a few wheels in the past on my dd and they actually came out pretty good. glossy and all.
