The issue I found with the Powerlock is I had applied it to some panels on the car, but not all. It had a week to cure on those and I started in on finishing the top, hood and tail with the swirl and haze remover and then the Finish polish with the porter cable Saturday. The finish polish with a little detail spray can make a mess if you are not careful, and I was not in some areas and released a sputter of polish on my shirt and on the top of the fenders and door, as well as the back bumper.
They did not come off with the wash, and they did not come off again with a MF cloth and the detail spray. I do not want to Rub on them too hard and scratch the paint. I am now out there with what is left of my thumbnail trying to push them off and pick them up with the MF. Maybe I should try some cleaning solution? Anyway, my point is bug guts or a little polish splatter should just wipe off with this sealer. I planned on another coat and after the cure time and some Buttery wax. We'll see how it works after the wax. Btw, I do not detail for a living and have little experience with the polisher, but know exactly what you mean on the Porter cable and lack of torque. This was especially true with the finish polish because I had to use speed 4 just to keep the stuff from flying around after a spritz of detail spray to keep things lubed up and moving. Just a small amount of pressure and the disc is no longer spinning. |
Do you have any cleaner wax by chance? If not then just get it off with your finger nail and polish the area and reapply some other sort of protection if not the powerlock. If you had any Klasse all in one i'd say try it, as the cleaners in it seem to take most stains and such I have encountered right off. Maybe the sealant is pretty hard stuff after all? lol.
Like I said though, I never have tried it though and i'm not that interested in trying it. I have many sealants and waxes that I like.. I just stick with them for now. |

Sorry late reply, didnt read the whole thread as its long now and im lazy. Anyways I had opticoat applied today to my black Z. I got pics and will start a threat on it. I cant get the car wet for 12hrs. Cant wash it for 3 weeks. Preferable to park in sun to help opticoat cure up good and hard. I had it applied for $525 over here in Australia (im sure its cheaper there) with an annual check up of $55 which includes an exterior detail and inspection. Is goes on like a liquid polish but flashes dry and then you even it out with a MF cloth. It is touch dry within a few minutes. It doesnt hide any blemishs to your paint so you may been a paint correction 2 stage buff. My 370 is new and has 300km on it and has spider swirls from the dealer. The guy said dont worry about a correction just go over the opticoat in 3 weeks with a filler polish or paint cleaner that has a filler in it. Once it gets wet I can let you know how it goes if you'd like. If ive missed something let me know. |
Looking forward to it. Thanks!

Mine is still looking great a year later. I get asked what kind of wax I use, and I always give them the same answer. None!

I just use optimum no-rinse (ONR) with a microfiber mitt, dry it off with a microfiber towel. But I park indoors at home and at work so it never gets super dirty to begin with.

How's everyone's opticoat holding up?

Sorry to bring up this old thread but I didn't see any reason to start a new one about the same subject.
Has anyone else tried this stuff? I just ordered some. I've been reading about it for a while on Autopia. The amateurs and professionals alike rave about how good it works. The only complaints about it that I can find are people who say they miss waxing their car on the weekends but there's really no point in it now. You clean the car with some ONR or a quick detailer when it gets dirty and it looks like you spent 4 hours, claying, polishing and waxing. It's super resistant to swirls, chemical etching and other contaminants. The key is doing all your paint correcting before you apply it. You get everything looking nice (including stripping the waxes and polishes with alcohol solution) then apply the Opti-Coat. There are guys on Autopia that have had this on their cars for 3 years and it's still like the day they applied it. Pretty amazing. |
First thing I did to my car was a polish and Opti-Coat application. I still apply wax from time to time for the hell of it. It really helps my car with the front end. Very easy to take bugs off.
Take your time applying it and get tons of lighting. I left a high spot on the bumper and it dried rock hard. I had to spot polish it down and reapply in that area. |

One thing I noticed is that it doesn't feel super smooth like wax though you can't deny how well water beads.

I need this done for my ZR - to help the MB. Wish I could find a dealer in LA to do it for me...
|
There are services that will do it for you. Many of them are in OC but they'll drive to LA for the work.
|
I found a service locally and have it scheduled in two weeks. YAY!

Had my 2011 done here in Portland by Thomas Dekany in June. Best $ spent on my ride so far. Dirt and bird poopoo rinses off in between wages, sparkles like new! He did the wheels, too. Get some!!!

I've had my opticoat for a year now, still looks great. I have small amount of swirl here and there though.
|
Small bits of swirl marks here and there after about a year and a half. Though they may have been uncaught early on. Most panels are still flawless.
|
It's interesting, my friend's black car is full of swirls now after a year like it was applied incorrectly

how does he wash his car? I ask because I'm rather certain the few swilrs that I do have were likely introduced the one time I went to the dealership and specifically told those d!ckweeds NOT to wash the car. Ofcourse the next logical step was for them to wash the car so I had to run out to their wash bay raising hell to get them to stop because they wouldn't stop the first 3 times I told the manager.... **** dealerships....
|
Looks like I'm going to need to redo my trunk. I park away from the berry trees at work but the damn squirrels and birds take them to the power lines and drop them on my car. They etch the top coat and I ended up needing the claybar to remove the color. Now I have micro-marring from the clay and although you can't see it in normal light, I can see dull areas with my special lights. FFFFFUUUUUUUU
|
Mine application is still working great. Was thinking about having a full detail job but I have still yet to find a good paint expert in my area of Maryland.
When I get around to rinsing/washing it off I'll try and snap some more pics and post them. I have even had a few people on my street ask me how I keep the car so clean but never wash the car as often as they do. |
